Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior restores, preserves, maintains and promotes Lighthouses on Lake Superior for the benefit and enjoyment of residents of the Thunder Bay region and visitors from afar! Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior (CLLS) is an umbrella organization represents a movement to restore, preserve, maintain and promote lighthouses that dot the northern shoreline of Lake Superiors. Incorporated under the watchful eye of the Ontario Historical Society, public use is one of the main pillars of the group. In the upcoming season the group will continue to maintain a couple of lighthouses leases in the region. Not only is the group maintaining local lighthouses but also provide a catalyst for other community groups, government departments and heritage users to become engaged. As the majority of surplus lighthouses fall further into disrepair, time is of the essence. Restoring our navigational history and sharing the stories, is a priority that our visitors help us support.

Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior’s Boathouse Folk School series of creative workshops wrapped up this weekend with a fabulous soapstone carving session led by award-winning stone-carver Deborah Spear.

This weekend Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior's VIP Artist in Residence, singer-songwriter Tony Dekker of the twice Juno-nominated band Great Lake Swimmers delivered a positively magical plein air acoustic performance at Porphyry Island. He spent a week on the island, staying in the lightkeepers' residence and wrote 6 songs during his stay.

"To have a length of quiet time, solitude, and space to think, disconnect, and be off the grid is a rare thing in our fast-paced world these days. So being on Porphyry was truly a gift and one I hope to put to good use. I wish I could stay another week".

The audience of the sold-out intimate show was treated to world-debuts of two of the hot-off-the press compositions, including one that was completed just hours before the show. A flock of cedar waxwings joined the performance as impromptu back-up singers!

We're very excited about our upcoming concert by Tony Dekker, lead singer of the 2-time Juno-nominated band, Great Lake Swimmers on August 29! An aerial look at Porphyry Point Light Station, Ontario, Canada which is located along the north shore of Lake Superior. The site is managed by the non-profit group Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior (CLLS). CLLS is involved in the restoration, preservation, maintenance and promotion of lighthouses on the north shore of Lake Superior. The group currently provides the public with access to the lights at Porphyry Point, Island No. 10 (Shaganash) and Trowbridge Island Lighthouses. The magnificent setting of Trowbridge Island Light, Ontario, Canada on Lake Superior. Established on the summit of the island in 1924, the light remains an active aid to navigation serviced by the Canadian Coast Guard. Overall maintenance of the site was leased to the non-profit group Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior (www.clls.ca) in 2016.
