Life skills is a big part of what we do. Cooking, cleaning, watering the plants. Taking pride in the beautiful space we share means everyone contributes to the care of our place. You know what else is a great life skill? Beating your pals at cards!

We’ve said it before. We love our neighborhood! And who isn’t loving these beautiful, warm autumn days?!
We visit Jerry at Café Ora every week. This is a great welcoming space where our members have the opportunity to practise skills like placing an order, paying for our purchases and sitting down to participate in social conversation. If you haven’t been to Cafe Ora lately you might not know that Cumberland Street has a new sidewalk at last! And when we’re hitting the streets you know we’ll be visiting our pal Sloan at the Dew Drop Inn Thunder Bay. It’s our pleasure to trek over with 3 wagons full of sandwiches every week!
Long may the sun shine!

We post a lot of pictures of our life skills work - we love making food! But we love other things too! Creative expression through art, moving our bodies with some chair yoga, discussing our love of movies with our friends in our Cinema Circle and just spending time playing cards or working on a puzzle together. The friendships founded at Rowan Tree are one of the most important outcomes of our programming!
P.s. Happy birthday to our pal Marcus 😉

Moving into the Thanksgiving weekend we’ve been focused on gratitude this week. At the Rowan Tree Collective we give thanks for the friends who gather here, for the beautiful neighbourhood we spend our days in and for the supporters who cheer us on. In particular this week we’re thankful to all of the skilled members of the collective who worked together to put together a fabulous festive feast!

Food is such a great connector. Whether we’re preparing food for our in-house lunch program or for our friends and neighbours at the Dew Drop Inn Thunder Bay, the kitchen skills bloom right alongside the friendships! As we move towards October it’s a season of gratitude and we’re feeling it.

Nobody wants to say good bye to a Thunder Bay summer but September, you did not disappoint. We love getting out in our neighborhood and enjoying the fresh air and warm sun before "you know what" comes. The construction on Cumberland is still underway but that doesn't stop us getting to our weekly coffee break at Café Ora. Thanks Jerry for always making us so welcome!

As we move into the last weekend of summer, we’re getting ready to welcome autumn and all of its bounty! This week was Farm Week at the Rowan Tree Collective. And boy do we have a lot of good food options in our region! Our lunch menus made the most of those things this week! Scones made of Brule Creek Farms flour and Thunder Oak Cheese Farm gouda. Vegetable soup and shepherds pie and salad featuring produce from our friends at Belluz Farms and Sleepy G Farm. We put together a full table of produce grown in our own region and had great fun learning about food, where it comes from and even played a little blindfolded food identification game!
If you love having access to good fresh seasonal food, thank a farmer!
