Happy Labour Day from all of us at North Parkland Power Co-op.

Today we take a moment to recognize the workers who keep rural Alberta moving, including the lineworkers, technicians, and office staff who show up every day to keep the power flowing across our five-county service area.

To every working person in our communities, enjoy a well-deserved day of rest with family and friends.

Power out? Here is what to do.

First, check the breaker at your meter box to make sure it hasn’t tripped and caused the outage. Next, check if it is a planned outage at npprea.ca/outages. If it is not listed, head to the Members area on our website to report it, or call us directly at 780-398-2000. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

While you wait for power to be restored, keep these tips in mind:

🟢 Keep your fridge and freezer doors closed. Food in the fridge is generally safe to consume for up to four hours as long as the door stays shut. A full freezer can keep food frozen for about 48 hours, while a half-full freezer can last about 24 hours.

🟢 Never use barbecues, camp stoves, or gas ovens indoors. In an outage, it can be tempting to find alternative heat sources, but carbon monoxide poisoning is a serious and silent risk.

🟢 If you are using a gas-powered generator, run it outside and away from windows and doors. Never operate one inside your home, garage, or any enclosed space.

🟢 If your carbon monoxide alarm goes off or you suspect poisoning, get outside into fresh air immediately and call 9-1-1.

We know an outage is never convenient. Our crew is always working as quickly and safely as possible to get your power restored.

Report an outage at npprea.ca or call 780-398-2000.

Harvest is one of the busiest times of year in rural Alberta. Keep it safe out there.

As combines roll and equipment moves across the farm, the risk of contact with overhead power lines increases. A few reminders before you head into the field:

▪️ Know your equipment height and the clearance of every power line on your route before you move.

▪️ Walk your route before moving large or tall equipment. Identify overhead lines and plan around them.

▪️ If equipment contacts a power line, stay in the cab, call 911, and call NPP. Do not exit the vehicle until the line has been confirmed de-energized by a qualified professional.

St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church, known locally as Egremont Church, has stood near the Hamlet of Egremont since 1939, built on the exact site where the Ingleside School once served the community until 1930.

What is inside is just as remarkable as the story behind it. Renowned iconographer Peter Lipinski (1888 to 1975) painted the icons in the Iconostasis and two additional works on the walls. Local craftsman Matthew Dmytryk contributed hand carved wood pieces, religious artifacts, furnishings, and the original tabernacle, all made by hand right here in the community.

Together, their work makes this small church one of the finest examples of traditional Byzantine architecture in the county, and a place well worth visiting.

Designated a Registered Historical Resource in 1998 and a Municipal Historical Resource in 2009, it is still standing and still cared for today.
