TCES had a busy Thursday evening, responding to both a vehicle fire and an MVC just before our regularly scheduled training night. Despite the back-to-back calls, members still had the opportunity to participate in a STARS landing zone training session led by a STARS outreach educator.

A huge thank you to STARS for travelling out to provide this valuable training and for patiently waiting nearly an hour and a half for our members to return from the calls. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to refresh our helicopter landing zone skills!!

Did you know? TCES sets up STARS landing zones multiple times a year. STARS may be required for anything from a trauma to a medical emergency so it is vital that TCES members keep their landing zone skills sharp.

This week, TCES members spent the evening sharpening their pump operations skills. Firefighters practiced relay pumping, maintaining consistent water pressure, and moving water efficiently between apparatus — all critical components during structure fires and wildland responses.

Pump operations training is an essential part of fireground readiness. Having skilled pump operators and a reliable water supply can make all the difference during an emergency. Not only is an effective water supply crucial for fire suppression efforts, but it also plays a vital role in protecting the safety of the firefighters operating on scene.

Training nights like these help build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and ensure our members are prepared to respond when the community needs us most. Pump operations are always a favourite training activity and tonight was no exception.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 14, TCES crews responded to a working structure fire. Firefighters arrived on scene within eight minutes of dispatch; however, the structure was already consumed upon arrival. Strong winds created challenging fire conditions and contributed to the rapid fire growth that ultimately destroyed the new structure.

TCES would like to remind residents that early 911 activation is critical to supporting effective fire suppression efforts. As a paid-on-call volunteer fire service, personnel require time to respond to their local fire station, gear up, and deploy apparatus to the incident scene. Early emergency notification provides crews with the best possible opportunity to contain fires before they escalate.

TCES extends its appreciation to all responding personnel during the early morning call and braved the challenging elements.

🩺 Happy Paramedic Services Week! (May 17-23) 🩺

This week, Thorhild County Emergency Services would like to recognize the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice of the EMS professionals we work side-by-side with in our community.

TCES, and the community, is lucky to have such dedicated EMS professionals serving our county.

Did you know?

TCES has a wealth of medical expertise right within our own ranks! While all of our members are trained in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS), our roster also includes highly skilled:

🚑 Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs)
🚑 Military Combat Medics
🚑 Primary Care Paramedics (PCPs)
🚑 Advanced Care Paramedics (ACPs)

It is very likely that the TCES members responding to your medical emergency have the same level of training as the responding EMS crew allowing us to begin providing high quality care prior to the arrival of EMS. We are incredibly proud of the diverse skills our team brings to the table to keep Thorhild County safe.

Join us in celebrating and thanking all the EMS and paramedical professionals in our community this week!

Due to the unexpected prolonged repair of Newbrook's Engine 2 and lack of a second line backup apparatus in the county, Rocky Mountain Phoenix has generously provided TCES with a loaner fire engine.
This generous support ensures that TCES maintains its standard of emergency response and operational readiness for our community while Engine 2 remains out of service.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the team at Rocky Mountain Phoenix for stepping up to support our department and the residents we serve.
