183 nominations. 87 businesses.

Nominations for the 2026 Business Excellence Awards opened August 1 and closed August 31. Every one of those 183 was written by someone who sat down and put a name forward. It takes time and it gives the person doing it nothing back.

The list below is most of what this economy is actually made of. Trades and industrial suppliers, retail and hospitality, professional and health services, automotive, technology, arts and food, community organizations and non-profits. Some have been here for decades. Some opened in the last few years. Several were named more than once.

Nominations were open to anyone and were not limited to Chamber members.

Finalists in the weeks ahead. Winners are named at the Business Excellence Awards Gala, Northern Lights: Celebrating Local Brilliance, on Friday, November 6, 6:00 PM at the Haisla Logistics Solution Airplane Hangar, 4355 Bristol Road. Dinner, entertainment, and a room full of the people who keep this place running. Open to the public and to businesses across the Northwest.

Community investment matters most when it supports real needs close to where we work.
In 2025, Seabridge Gold’s local community development investment totalled $302,624. Within that broader investment, the Community Donation Program contributed $50,000 to northwest B.C. community initiatives, supporting local services, emergency response, food banks, public skating, and community programs.
This included support for the Kitwanga Emergency Services Facility replacement project, local food banks, public skating in Northwest B.C. communities, and education programs connected to future career pathways.
In 2026, Seabridge Gold will continue looking for opportunities to support practical, community-focused initiatives in Northwest B.C.

Last Friday the Chamber was down at Rio Tinto BC Works in Kitimat for a site tour, and we were in good company.
Joining us were Kitsumkalum Chief Troy Sam, Councillors Anona Budden and Cynthia Bohn, and Clint Budden of the Kitsumkalum Economic Development Board, along with City of Terrace Councillors Sarah Zimmerman and Inder Dhillon. Chamber President Brian Williams and Executive Director Suresh Choudhary rounded out the group.

The morning started with a safety induction and a presentation from Rio Tinto’s Communities and Social Performance team. From there we went into the casting house, where the metal is prepared for shipping to customer specifications, then took a driving tour of the smelter site before wrapping up with questions.
An operation that size is worth seeing up close. Seeing it alongside Kitsumkalum and City leadership on the same morning is what made the day worth the drive.
