WE ARE HIRING!

Terrace Bay Fire and Emergency Services require volunteer firefighters! Have you ever wanted to help out your community while being trained in Emergency first response? This includes, but is not limited to, structural fires, vehicle fires, forest fires, medical response, hazardous material response, vehicle accidents(extrication), wilderness rescues and more!
The time to step up is now! Be a part of a great team of local volunteers!

ALL TRAINING that is required to become a certified firefighter will be done through the fire college and fully paid for(All training/travel costs plus, meals, daily per diems, mileage, etc).

Be Bear Wise and Prevent Bear Encounters
Stay safe and follow these tips as bears emerge from hibernation

The Ontario Government and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding the public to stay safe and prevent attracting black bears as they come out of hibernation.

During this time of year, there is little natural food for bears, causing them to search for other food sources, including garbage and bird feed. To help protect our communities and keep residents safe, follow these simple and effective precautions:

Never feed or approach bears
Store garbage in waste containers with tight-fitting lids, preferably indoors
Wait until pickup day to put out garbage for collection
Remove bird feeders for the spring and summer (instead you can offer birds natural alternatives such as flowers, nesting boxes or fresh water)
Clean food residue from outdoor barbecue grills and grease traps after each use
Keep dogs on leash and store pet food indoors
Alert your neighbours about bear activity and share these Bear Wise tips to reduce attractants in your community

It is important to know how to handle a bear encounter, and who to call if you encounter one. The province operates a non-emergency, toll-free Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327. The line operates from April 1 to November 30 and is available 24/7.

If a bear is posing an immediate threat by showing threatening or aggressive behaviour, remain calm and call 911 or your local police department.

REMINDER - ORV Resident Information

With the increase usage of the ORV’s in the community, we would like to remind all users of the following:

WHERE CAN I DRIVE MY ORV in Terrace Bay?

Where can I ride?
-You CAN ride on Terrace Bay streets and roads with noted exceptions below
-You CAN ride on established trail systems
-You CAN ride on Highway 17 within the Township boundaries of Terrace Bay
-You CANNOT ride on any Private Property unless you have permission of the owner.
-You CANNOT ride on the street known as SIMCOE PLAZA
-You CANNOT ride on the Terrace Bay Beach
-You CANNOT ride on any SIDEWALK within the Township of Terrace Bay
-You CANNOT ride off-road motorcycles (ORM) commonly known as dirt bikes; and, extreme terrain vehicles(XTV), which are semi-amphibious vehicles with six or more wheels on any municipal highway

WHAT ARE THE GENERAL RULES FOR RIDING?

Where should ORVs be driven on-road?
-Along the shoulder of the roadway in the same direction of traffic.
-If the shoulder is obstructed or if there is no shoulder, ride as close to the right of the road as possible.

When can I ride?
-Off-road vehicles shall only be operated on highways from the hours of 7:00am (0700h) to 11:00pm (2300h) on any day.
-Operation and use of off-road vehicles must be in accordance with Bylaw 369 (commonly known as the Noise Control By-law)

How fast can I go?
No person shall operate an off-road vehicle at a greater rate of speed than twenty kilometres per hour (20 km/h) upon any highway or service roadway or part thereof within Terrace Bay.

Who can ride?
-Only those with a minimum G2 or M2 licence may operate an ORV on highways and municipal roads where permitted.
-Graduated Licensing System requirements apply to young and novice drivers when driving on-road.
-Children under the age of eight (😎 are not permitted as passengers on an ORV that is operating on-road.

Welcome to Terrace Bay, Edem Agbota!

The Township of Terrace Bay is pleased to welcome Edem Agbota as our New Economic Development Officer!

Edem is a recent Master’s graduate in Economics from Lakehead University, bringing with him four years of experience in applied research and business analysis. He is excited to build strong relationships with our local business community and work alongside residents to help support and shape the future of Terrace Bay.

The Township would also like to thank FedNor for its funding support of this three-year Economic Development Officer position.

Our Annual Staff BBQ was a huge success! ☀️🍔

Every year, we gather together for a BBQ to celebrate and thank our amazing staff for all the hard work, dedication, and energy they’ve brought to another incredible summer! ❤️

A big thank you to Rebecca for putting everything together, and a huge shoutout to Council for firing up the grill and cooking burgers and smokies!
