South Frontenac Fire & Rescue received a complaint from an alert visitor to our area who was renting a cabin that did not have a smoke alarm. SFFR attended and completed an inspection. The property owner was fined $1,600 for eight Ontario Fire Code violations. All cabins were left with proper protection in place. Owners are legally required to install and maintain smoke alarms for every rental location that includes sleeping areas such as a house, cabin, trailer, houseboat etc. Owners are also responsible to supply and maintain carbon monoxide alarms where fuel burning appliances are present. Additionally, owners are responsible to verify these safety devices are in working order prior to every rental, which should be formally documented.

If you rent a temporary accommodation and the smoke alarm is missing, not functioning, or older than 10-years old notify the owner.

Believe it or not, school is back in session tomorrow! Keep your eyes open - drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert and watch for school buses and crossing guards, especially in school zones. Good luck for the 2026/27 school year, and don't forget to enter South Frontenac Township's 'Remember the Summer - Back to School' contest.

Firefighters from stations 3, 4 & 5 battled a fire over the weekend on Quinn Road East. They were assisted by water tankers from stations 6, 7 and Kingston Fire & Rescue. The fire was brought under control in four hours with no injuries to humans or livestock. The fire originated in a tractor and quickly speak to a hay bailer and outbuilding with an estimated dollar loss of $300,000. SFFR would like to remind everyone that propane tanks should be stored outside of buildings. During a fire they can quickly overheat and explode putting fire fighters at extreme risk.

A truck driver was rescued from this overturned concrete truck yesterday on Burnt Hills Road. It was a very complex extrication as the driver had two legs trapped in a very small area, 25 tons of concrete in the truck, and a leaking fuel tank . The female pup in the photo was initially presumed crushed in the wreckage however our fire crews were very relieved to find the disoriented pup about 100 feet away from the crash site in a wooded area. Thanks to our firefighters, Frontenac Paramedics, and the Ontario Provincial Police for their stamina and professionalism on this dangerous response in very humid working conditions.
