On May 23, at approximately 4 :45 a.m., Swan River RCMP pulled over a vehicle travelling west on Highway 483.

After conversing with the driver, the officer began to suspect she was impaired and arrested her. The suspect refused to provide a breath sample.

A 54-year-old Sapotaweyak Cree Nation female faces charges of:
• Operating a vehicle while impaired;
• Refusing to comply with breath demand
• Operation of a vehicle while prohibited.

She was held in custody overnight, then released on an appearance notice.

On May 22, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Swan River RCMP's general investigation section, assisted by general detachment officers, executed a search warrant at a residence in Swan River, on the 600-block of Main Street.

Once inside, officers found various prescription pill bottles with different names on them, drug paraphernalia and some weapons, including a pellet gun.

The suspect was not home at the time. At approximately 8:45 p.m., officers located the suspect at another residence and arrested him.

A 45-year-old Swan River male faces charges of:
• Drug trafficking x2; and
• Drug possession.

The suspect was released on an undertaking, with a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 5.

On May 22, at 12:34 p.m., RCMP were called to a collision involving a female pedestrian at the intersection of Main Street and 8th Avenue in Swan River.

The pedestrian, a 57-year-old from Swan River, was struck by a westbound truck while crossing the street. The pedestrian was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 79-year-old Durban male, remained at the scene and spoke to officers.

On May 22, at 12:34 p.m., RCMP were called to a collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Main Street and 8th Avenue in Swan River.

The pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a truck. She was transported to hospital.

Traffic at the intersection was temporarily closed but has since reopened.

On May 18, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Swan River RCMP responded to a report that youths were causing a disturbance outside a residence on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

Officers responded to the scene and learned there were three suspects – one armed with a pellet gun and the other two with machetes. The suspect carrying the pellet gun reportedly had shot at other people outside. Windows at a residence were also smashed.

The suspects then left the scene. No injuries were reported.

Later that day, at approximately noon, RCMP conducted a traffic stop in the community. All three suspects were located inside the vehicle and arrested.

A search of one suspect, a 25-year-old Brandon male, uncovered a machete and a loaded pellet gun pistol. A rifle and a hatchet were also found inside the vehicle.

Christian Thomas Cook, 25, of Brandon, is charged with:
• Carrying a concealed weapon x2;
• Illegal possession of a weapon;
• Weapon possession contrary to court order x4; and
• Failure to comply with release order conditions x2.

A 16-year-old male, from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation is charged with:
• Illegal possession of a weapon x2;
• Weapon possession contrary to court order x2; and
• Resisting a peace officer.

Cook and the 16-year-old suspect were remanded into custody.

A 14-year-old Swan River male youth was charged with possession of a weapon and three counts of failure to comply with release order conditions. Charges have resulted in the youth being sentenced earlier this week to probation by the court.

On May 13, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Swan River RCMP received a report that a suspect had shoplifted from a local grocery store for the second time in as many days.

The investigation determined the suspect had entered the store on consecutive days, taking several items off the shelf, placing them inside her jacket pocket and leaving without paying. Approximately $70 worth of candy and snacks were taken on Tuesday and another $20 worth of items on Wednesday.

The suspect was identified and subsequently located on Thursday. She was arrested without incident.

A 22-year-old Swan River female faces two charges of theft under $5,000.

She was released on an undertaking.

On May 9, at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers from the Swan River RCMP General Investigation Section performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that had just left a nearby beverage room.

Further investigation resulted in officers searching the vehicle. A pill container with no label filled with what is believed to be a prescription painkiller was located and both suspects were arrested.

Two males from Swan River – ages 78 and 33 – face charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Both individuals were released on an undertaking, with a court appearance set for August.
