The following is a summary of police activities in the Swan River Detachment Area. The reporting dates are between August 1st and August 31st, 2026. During this period, police responded to 376 calls for service.

On Aug. 31, at 9:55 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of an all-terrain vehicle striking two pedestrians on the Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation.

Swan River RCMP officers responded to the scene and learned the pedestrians – a 39-year-old female and 34-year-old male – were walking in the community on Porcupine Bay when they were hit from behind by a male driving an ATV.

The female sustained the majority of the impact of the collision and suffered severe injuries. EMS, RCMP officers and community members all performed lifesaving measures. However, despite their efforts, the female succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The male victim was taken to hospital with multiple non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the ATV was uninjured. He was arrested outside his house, not far from the collision, while standing near the four-wheel vehicle. The ATV was seized and impounded.

A 21-year-old Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation male faces numerous charges. He was released from custody on conditions.

The investigation continues.

On Aug. 28, at approximately 4:15 p.m., RCMP arrested six people at a property on the 300-block of 7th Avenue South in Swan River as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

The RCMP’s Swan River General Investigation Section (GIS) executed multiple search warrants – first at the residence, then at outbuildings and vehicles associated with the property. GIS officers were assisted by Swan River RCMP, the RCMP West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team, the RCMP West District GIS and Police Dog Services.

After executing the warrants, RCMP found and seized approximately:
• 45 grams of powder co***ne;
• Various drug paraphernalia, including scales and packaging materials;
• Nearly $1,600 in cash; and
• Three pellet guns (replica handguns).

Six people were arrested at the scene without incident.

Carla Slepicka, 49, of Swan River is charged with:
• Drug trafficking; and
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Wayne Cook, 45, of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation is charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Both Slepicka and Cook were remanded into custody.

Michael Makasoff, 38, of Swan River is charged with:
• Drug trafficking; and
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Lawrence Severight, 56, of Cote First Nation in Saskatchewan is charged with:
• Drug possession for the purpose of trafficking; and
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Two people – Dustin McDuff, 45, of Swan River and 22-year-old Kaylee Keefe of Kenville are both charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Makasoff, Severeight, McDuff and Keefe were all released on undertakings.

On Aug. 25, at approximately 6 a.m., Swan River RCMP responded to a report of a serious assault involving machetes that occurred on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

Officers learned the 19-year-old male victim had been outside at 4 a.m. when a number of individuals – some of whom were wearing masks – approached. One individual used bear spray on the victim and then others joined in the assault, including two suspects armed with machetes.

The victim suffered multiple injuries and lacerations to various parts of his body before managing to escape.

Two male suspects from Sapotaweyak – ages 18 and 15 -- were identified as suspects by officers and subsequently arrested without incident.

Trey Chartrand-McKay, 18, is charged with aggravated assault. He was remanded into custody.

The 15-year-old male faces an aggravated assault charge. He was released on an undertaking.

RCMP have arrested three people following an investigation into drug trafficking occurring at a residence in Swan River.

On Aug. 20, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Swan River General Investigation Section – assisted by Swan River detachment members and RCMP Police Dog Services – executed a search warrant at a residence on 6th Avenue North in Swan River. The warrant was obtained after RCMP received information and complaints that drug trafficking was occurring at the residence.

One resident, a 43-year-old Brandon male, was arrested by officers after being seen leaving the home as RCMP were preparing to execute the search warrant. Officers then executed the warrant and went inside the residence, finding and seizing:
• 26 grams of powder co***ne;
• 3.5 grams of crack co***ne;
• 268 prescription pills;
• Various drug paraphernalia, such as scales and packaging materials;
• $6,820 in cash; and
• An expandable baton.

Two Swan River females were also arrested inside the home.

Collin Kosolowsky, 43, of Brandon is charged with:
• Trafficking of co***ne;
• Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking;
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and
• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.

Two other Swan River residents – 42-year-old Wendy Ledoux and 70-year-old Ceone Jorgenson – are charged with:
• Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking x2;
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and
• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.

All three were released on undertakings.

On Aug. 15, at approximately 10:50 a.m., Swan River RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing that occurred at a residence on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

RCMP responded to a residence, where they found a 19-year-old female who had been stabbed multiple times. Officers learned the victim had been at a different home overnight, woke up to discover she had been stabbed while she slept, and ran outside for help. A passerby drove her home, at which point family members called for help.

The victim was transported to hospital in Brandon for treatment of her injuries.

Following an investigation, RCMP arrested a 14-year-old male from the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation in connection with the stabbing. He faces a charge of aggravated assault.

The suspect remained in custody ahead of a scheduled court appearance on Monday.

Swan River RCMP remind riders about off-road safety

ORVs – which include dirt bikes, all-terrain and utility terrain vehicles – are fun to ride, have practical uses and can get you places you might not otherwise have access to.

However, these machines can be very powerful and a number of Manitobans are injured or worse every year because of mistakes made while operating their ORV.

We remind ORV drivers of the following rules and tips to stay safe:

• Learn about the area you’re riding in and ensure you are carrying your cellphone and/or GPS device.
• Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to be back. Better yet, ride in a group of two or more.
• No person under the age of 14 is allowed to operate an ORV unless supervised and accompanied by an adult.
• You must wear your seat belt if your ORV is equipped.
• No person should be operating an ORV without a helmet – and it must be securely fastened.
• You cannot carry a passenger unless your ORV is designed for two riders.
• You are not allowed to travel on or through private property, including farmland and gravel pits.
• Operating an ORV on a roadway is prohibited. Crossing a roadway is permitted if you hold a valid driver’s license.
• Riders should never operate an ORV while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Every ORV must be equipped with a noise muffler in good working order.
• Carry the proper safety equipment related to the type of ORV you’re operating.

Swan River RCMP make arrest after male assaulted and robbed

On August 10, 2026, at 4:09 pm, an unknown male attended the Swan River RCMP detachment to report an assault that occurred on August 5, 2026.

The 21-year-old male advised police that after going on a drive with a male that was known to him, he was assaulted, robbed, threatened with a firearm, and left stranded on a back road outside of Bowsman.

A description of the suspect and his vehicle was provided to officers.

Patrols began immediately for the suspect and a vehicle matching the description was located in Swan River. A traffic stop was initiated, and the 24-year-old male was arrested without incident.

A search warrant was executed on the suspect’s residence and officers located BB guns, along with a firearm that matched the description of the one that was used in the robbery.

The 24-year-old male was remanded into custody and faces the following charges:

• Using firearm in the commission of an offence;
• Unsafe storage of fi****ms;
• Robbery – with firearm;
• Assault;
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• Robbery with restricted firearm;
• Uttering threats;
• Assault with a weapon

Swan River RCMP arrest youth after vandalism to local business

On August 10, 2026, at 9:06 am,, Swan River RCMP were notified about damage that had been done to a business on 5th Avenue North.

Officers attended to find the front door of the business had been smashed with a brick found inside the doorway.

Police were able to identify a suspect via security footage from a nearby business.

Officers arrested the youth without incident.

A 17-year-old from Keeseekoose First Nation in Saskatchewan, faces a charge of Mischief under $5,000.

He was released into the care of an adult with a future court date.
