Under The Same Sun (UTSS) exists to promote, via advocacy and education, the wellbeing of persons often marginalized and misunderstood. UTSS’ major goal is to promote the wellbeing of persons with albinism in Tanzania through the provision of education scholarships to children, youth and adults at all levels – from primary to post secondary institutions. Our Education Scholarship Fund (ESF) is off

ering grants to persons with albinism in many regions of Tanzania for the academic year 2013-2014. Our target is to reach over 300 beneficiaries, placing them in the best and safest educational environments Tanzania has to offer. 🎓 Proudly in their skin. Boldly pursuing their future.

Today, 103 students with albinism in Under The Same Sun's Education Program are studying at colleges and universities across Tanzania.

From law and nursing to cybersecurity, communications, accounting, and clinical medicine, these students are building careers, breaking barriers, and showing what is possible when students with albinism are given the opportunity to thrive.

Every student represents a future filled with leadership, opportunity, and hope.

"It took time for me to accept myself fully and to believe that I could achieve great things just like anyone else."

When Sikujua joined UTSS's education program in 2010, she was just 10 years old. Like many children with albinism, she struggled with confidence and often felt different because of the way others treated her.

Through education, mentorship, healthcare, and support from UTSS, she gained the confidence to embrace who she is and pursue her dreams.

"UTSS helped me build strong self-confidence, allowing me to interact freely with other people and become more open in society."

Today, Sikujua is a university graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Studies.

This International Albinism Awareness Month, we're celebrating what it means to live proudly in your own skin. Your support helps more students with albinism gain the confidence, education, and opportunities they need to build bright futures.

A reported abduction of an 18-months-old child with albinism in Madagascar and the killing of a 36-year-old man with albinism in Malawi highlight the continuing dangers faced by persons with albinism across the region.

AAN calls for:
• Swift investigations and accountability
• Protection for affected families and communities
• Strengthened prevention and reporting systems
• Full implementation of national and regional protection measures

Persons with albinism have the right to live in safety, dignity, and freedom from fear.

At the Africa Albinism Network, we envision a continent where persons with albinism live free from brutality, discrimination, and exclusion, an Africa where everyone can participate fully and equally in society.

We also applaud the efforts of African countries in advancing National Action Plans aligned with the African Union’s Plan of Action to end attacks and strengthen protections for persons with albinism. 👏🏽📣
