For students with albinism, a pair of eyeglasses can mean the difference between struggling to see the classroom board and confidently participating in every lesson.

Earlier this summer, 126 students received comprehensive eye examinations, and 124 received prescription glasses tailored to their vision needs.

Access to healthcare isn't separate from education. It makes education possible.

Starting college is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming.

That's why, before our newest students begin this next chapter, they participate in pre-college training designed to prepare them for both the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Earlier this year, students learned about college life, building healthy relationships, making informed course selections, and developing strategies for academic and personal success. Parents and guardians also joined the conversation, exploring how they can continue supporting their children throughout their college journey.

At Under The Same Sun, our goal isn't simply to help students get into college. It's to help them succeed once they're there.

Success in school doesn't just happen in the classroom.

At Under The Same Sun, our training and support extend beyond the school walls because we know that students need more than academic knowledge to thrive.

This quarter, our primary and secondary students took part in health behaviour training covering personal hygiene, caring for their belongings, healthy relationships, bullying prevention, saving skills, and other practical life skills.

These are the skills that help students grow in confidence, become more independent, and navigate life beyond the classroom.

Because education isn't only about preparing students for their next exam. It's about preparing them for life.

When Furaha was just 10 years old, the violence against people with albinism in Tanzania forced him to move schools for his own safety.

Through Under The Same Sun, Furaha received safe schooling, vision care, health support, and the opportunity to pursue his dreams. Like many students with albinism, he faced significant challenges along the way. Low vision made it difficult to see classroom materials, and social stigma often affected his self-confidence during his early years. But, with access to vision aids, educational support, mentorship, and encouragement from UTSS, he persevered through every obstacle and continued to excel academically.

Today, Furaha is a graduate with a Bachelor of Computer Science!

His final university project? A website designed to raise awareness about albinism around the world.

Stories like Furaha's remind us that education is more than a classroom. It's protection. It's dignity. It's opportunity.

Every day under the sun brings a higher risk of skin damage for people with albinism. Without regular skin checks and sun protection, that risk can become life-threatening.

This quarter, 103 students in our program attended specialized skin clinics where they received skin screenings, education, and preventative care to reduce their risk of skin cancer.

These clinics are about more than treating skin. They equip students with the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves for a lifetime, helping them stay healthy, remain in school, and pursue the futures they've worked so hard to build.

Students with albinism face unique health and vision challenges. But often, their greatest barriers are the myths, misconceptions, and stigma that surround albinism.

That's why our Understanding Albinism seminars matter.

This quarter, our team visited schools and universities to dispel myths, share the truths about albinism, and help teachers, administrators, and students understand how to better support people with albinism. From simple classroom accommodations to challenging harmful stereotypes, these conversations help create environments where students with albinism are seen for who they truly are: capable, talented, and full of potential.

One exciting outcome came at Mwenge Catholic University, where leaders began exploring the creation of a department dedicated to supporting students with disabilities after attending one of our seminars.

When understanding grows, opportunities grow too.
