Back-to-school season can bring excitement, anticipation and, for some children and youth, anxiety.

Parents and caregivers can help by getting routines back on track, asking what their child is worried about and really listening.

Nelam Sall, a program lead with Fraser Health’s Integrated Child and Youth, Mental Health and Substance Use Services, says acknowledging their feelings, talking through what to expect and reminding them of challenges they’ve handled before can help children feel more prepared and supported.

Summer progress update: the new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre.

Three years ago, 18050 James Hill Drive was an empty field behind KPU’s Cloverdale campus.

Today, the future new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre stands seven storeys above ground and continues to rise.

When complete, the nine-storey, 1.3 million sq. ft. facility will bring:
• 168 acuity-adaptable beds
• A 55-space Emergency Department
• Expanded surgical and diagnostic services

One of B.C.’s largest cancer centres, with 54 chemotherapy treatment spaces and six linear accelerators for radiation therapy

Designed to support the needs of one of B.C.’s fastest-growing communities, the new hospital and cancer centre will help provide care closer to home while increasing capacity across the region.

Exciting progress continues every day. Follow along at fraserhealth.ca/nshbccc
