Surrey Police Service has notified Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of an incident in , where a suspect stabbed two people and one of the victims died from their injuries.

SPS members confronted the suspect who was then injured in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect has since been pronounced deceased at hospital. The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) has been engaged to review police actions.

At approximately 1:00 pm on May 29, 2026, SPS Frontline members attended a building in the 13300 block Old Yale Road for a report of an assault. Police arrived on scene and located two victims suffering from stab wounds. The male suspect was no longer on scene.

SPS members and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) administered emergency medical interventions to both victims. Regrettably, one was declared deceased at scene. The other was transported to hospital where they remain in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. IHIT will be assuming conduct of this investigation.

A male suspect was located a short distance away. There was a confrontation with police that resulted in officers firing their service-issued duty pistols. The suspect was seriously injured and transported to hospital. The suspect has since been pronounced deceased.

IIO BC was notified by SPS, asserted jurisdiction and is investigating police actions in the incident.

One man has been arrested and charged with multiple Criminal Code offences following a Surrey Police Service investigation into alleged Possession and Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials (CSAEM).

In January 2025, SPS Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) officers commenced an investigation into reports of a suspect possessing and distributing CSAEM online.

In June 2025, SPS ICE officers executed a search warrant at a residence in South Surrey, where evidence in relation to the investigation was located and seized.

On May 27, 2026, Mark Reade, a 41-year-old-male, was charged with four Criminal Code offences that include:

• Possession of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials
• Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials
• Unsafe storage of a firearm
• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device

Mark Reade attended court on May 28, 2026, and was released with numerous strict court-imposed conditions and a next court appearance date of June 25, 2026.

• Ensure you have a safety standard approved helmet, eyewear, and gloves for protection.
• Practice emergency braking and obstacle avoidance.

Surrey Police Service has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Surrey where an individual has been injured in an officer-involved shooting.

At approximately 7:34 pm on May 25, 2026, Surrey Police Service attended a residence in 12200 block Southpark Crescent for a report of a suspicious male. Police arrived on scene and the man reportedly confronted police, with police firing their service-issued duty pistols.

SPS officers and BCEHS paramedics administered emergency medical interventions, and the affected person was transported to hospital, where they were last reported as receiving treatment for injuries of unknown severity.

The IIO BC was notified by SPS, asserted jurisdiction, and is investigating police actions in the incident. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released or confirmed by police. Please contact the IIO BC with any inquiries.
