Back-to-school season is here, and that means more school buses on the road and more children walking to and from bus stops. Let’s all do our part to keep kids safe.

• Slow down in school zones and residential areas, especially mornings and afternoons.
• Always stop for school buses with flashing red lights and extended stop arms – it’s the law.
• Watch carefully for children crossing the street or waiting at bus stops.
• Avoid driving while distracted. Stay alert when you’re behind the wheel.

🚦 Centre Street North Pedestrian Lights Update

Following the recent work on Centre Street North, the pedestrian lights for the crosswalk at the school and the crosswalk near Joko’s Convenience Store will be reinstalled.

However, the lights will not be activated immediately, as we are currently waiting for the necessary parts to arrive.

As soon as the parts are received and the lights are ready, they will be reactivated.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Alberta RCMP Urges Caution at Crosswalks as Students Return to School.

With kids returning to school, the Alberta RCMP are reminding everyone about crosswalk safety. Whether you are a parent, student, or motorist remember to always stay alert when approaching a crosswalk.

If you are using a crosswalk, make sure that the driver sees you before you step out. Just because a car slows down, doesn’t mean that they see you. Make sure a car comes to a complete stop before you step out onto the crosswalk.

As a driver, always slow down when a approaching a crosswalk. Young children can dart out without looking, so make sure to be aware and not be distracted when driving.

♻️ A friendly recycling reminder!

In preparation for the new recycling program beginning on October 1, 2026 residents are reminded not to place garbage bags into your recycling bin. Recyclables should go directly into the bin so they can be properly sorted.

Thanks for helping keep our community recycling right!

If you would like to learn more about this new program, please visit: https://www.circularmaterials.ca/resident-communities/sundre/

A message from Fortis Alberta:

FortisAlberta will be replacing electricity meters in our area over the next month. This work is part of a system-wide program to ensure all electricity meters meet the latest safety and performance standards as equipment reaches the end of its lifespan.

Our current meters are nearing the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced. There is no additional charge to customers for this work.

What to expect:
• A qualified technician will visit your property within the next month.
• You do not need to be home, as long as the meter is accessible. If the exchange cannot be completed, a notice will be left outlining next steps.
• If you are home, the technician will knock on your door to explain the process
• During the exchange, electricity service will be briefly interrupted, typically for less than 10 minutes.
• Once the new meter is installed and power is restored, the technician will confirm it’s working. You may need to reset some electronic devices.

Who is doing the work:
FortisAlberta is working with qualified contractors, Olameter Inc. and Rodan Energy Solutions. These technicians operate under FortisAlberta’s oversight and follow the same safety, security, and quality standards. They carry identification, wear uniforms, and safety gear, and will never ask for payment or personal information.
