DANGEROUS DRIVING INCIDENT, COLLISION, UNDER INVESTIGATION

📂 2026-658989

On Sunday May 17th at approximately 12:30 AM Summerside Police observed a motor vehicle travelling west bound on Water Street East at approximately two and a half times the posted speed limit. Police activated emergency equipment but the attempt to stop the vehicle was ended due to safety concerns.

A short time later, police located the same vehicle after it had been involved in a significant collision at Summerside Chrysler Dodge on Water Street involving multiple vehicles. The driver failed to safely navigate a northbound turn onto MacEwen Road, lost control, and crashed. The collision impacted three vehicles on the dealership lot.

The driver, a twenty-two-year-old Summerside man was arrested at the scene, a blood demand was issued and analysis is pending. He was transported to Prince County Hospital by Island EMS for assessment.

He was later released from custody with a 24-hour driving suspension, and the vehicle he had been operating was impounded. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face charges including dangerous driving, flight from police, and impaired driving.

Three dealership vehicles, with a combined estimated value of approximately three hundred thousand dollars, were deemed to be a write off, as was the driver’s vehicle.

MAN ARRESTED ON WARRANTS, DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES BEING INVESTIGATED

📂 2026-605079

A forty-seven year-old Charlottetown area man is facing multiple charges, including drug trafficking related charges, after being arrested on outstanding warrants in Summerside.

On May 7 at approximately 12:10 PM, Summerside Police Services received a report of a man with a knife arguing with another person at a Granville Street restaurant. Police attended the scene and located the person, who was allegedly in
possession of the knife.

The man, known to police, had two outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court and was arrested at the scene. A search of the man yielded two edged weapons and quantities of fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, and hydromorphone, along with money and scales consistent with drug trafficking.

The man was remanded into custody and will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to charges including theft, failing to attend court, and weapons possession.

Drug trafficking related charges are still under investigation and expected to be laid in the coming weeks.

NINE DRIVERS TICKETED FOR CELL PHONE VIOLATIONS

📂 N/A

Summerside Police Services issued tickets to nine drivers throughout the city on Tuesday, May 5, for cell phone violations.

The use of cell phones while driving significantly impacts public safety by taking a driver’s attention away from the task at hand, which is the safe operation of a motor vehicle.

Using a cell phone while driving can significantly reduce a driver’s ability to identify and respond to hazards and changes in traffic flow that may develop in their path. Even a momentary distraction can result in a collision.

In Prince Edward Island, using a handheld cell phone while driving can result in penalties beginning at a $575 fine and five (5) demerit points. The law applies to holding, touching, or using a handheld device while driving or stopped in traffic.

You are allowed to use a handheld device to contact emergency services and 911.
Summerside Police Services encourages everyone to practice safe driving habits.
