June carries many stories.

It is National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month, a time to honour Indigenous histories, leadership, culture, and resilience, while also recognizing the courage, joy, and continued fight for safety and belonging within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

At Women’s Rural Resource Centre, we know these identities and experiences are not separate from the work of care, healing, advocacy, and safety. Many people move through the world carrying more than one story, more than one struggle, and more than one source of strength.

This month, we honour the people, communities, and teachings that remind us that safety must be rooted in respect, inclusion, and dignity. Not only in June, but every day.

Every child and young person deserves support that helps them feel safe, seen, and cared for during difficult times.

Our Part-Time Child & Youth Worker helps provide that through trauma-informed programming, advocacy, and meaningful support for children, youth, and caregivers impacted by gender-based violence. This role is rooted in connection, trust, and showing up in ways that help young people feel understood, supported, and not alone.

Working across shelter and community settings, this role helps create space for healing, growth, and belonging through both individual and group-based support.

If you or someone you know feels called to this work, we’d truly appreciate you sharing this opportunity.

Application Deadline: June 2, 2026

As the day comes to a close, we want to take a moment to acknowledge Mother’s Day and hold space for all that it can bring.

On behalf of the Women’s Rural Resource Centre, we are sending love, care, and appreciation to all mothers, mothers-to-be, stepmothers, chosen mothers, those grieving their mothers, and those who hold mothering roles in so many different ways. We also recognize that today can be complex for many, and we hold that with care and compassion 💛

You are celebrated not just today, but every day, for your strength, your care, your self-determination, and all the unseen ways you show up.

With love,
The Women’s Rural Resource Centre

Today, we’re proud to celebrate Barb Mitchell, Integrated Support & Outreach Worker at Women’s Rural Resource Centre, as a 2025 ChangeMaker recognized by United Way Elgin Middlesex.

Barb has spent the past seven years supporting women, children, men, and families through advocacy, court and police processes, outreach, and moments when people need someone firmly in their corner.

When asked what motivates her to create change, Barb shared:

“We need more people to fight for those who can’t, and if I can help just one person and see how grateful they are, it is so rewarding to me.”

Miigwech - thank you, Barb, for your kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to supporting survivors and families in our community. We are so grateful to have you as part of WRRC.
