Endangered Species Day is a reminder of the importance of protecting both species and their critical habitats.

The SCRCA and St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation own and manage over 5,000 acres of conservation lands that provide critical habitat for wildlife across the watershed. From wetlands and forests to grasslands and rivers, these natural areas support countless species, including many species at risk.

Here are just a few ways SCRCA is helping protect biodiversity across the watershed:
๐ŸŒฟ Protecting and restoring habitats at the Bradshaw Conservation Lands, which is home to the endangered Red-Headed Woodpecker.
๐Ÿข Gearing up for another season of the Sydenham Reptile Recovery Initiative, to safeguard some of the most endangered groups of animals on the planet.
๐ŸŸ Working with University of Toronto PhD student Dominique Rumball (Nicholas Mandrakโ€™s Lab) at the Keith McLearn Conservation Lands to restore coastal wetlands and monitor the endangered Spotted Gar
๐ŸŒพ Working alongside partners and agricultural landowners on the Black Creek Demonstration Farm to showcase agricultural Best Management Practices that improve water quality while supporting productive farming

Through habitat restoration, invasive species management, monitoring, and stewardship programs, the SCRCA remains committed to protecting species at risk and the ecosystems they depend on.

Every effort counts in safeguarding our natural heritage for future generations. ๐Ÿ’š

Continue celebrating this weekend by taking part in the City Nature Challenge BioBlitz or by joining us at one of these two FREE events!

Mark and Myra from our Education Team will be at Peers Wetland TOMORROW for the PA Day from 10 AM โ€“ 3 PM. Mark and Myra will have nature-exploration equipment available for borrowing and will be running guided tours throughout the day. Please note that Peers Wetland does not have on-site washrooms.

On Saturday, Jacqueline and Ian will be at Earthfest London, from 11 AM - 4 PM at Citi Plaza/Central Library in Downtown London. Our friends from Salthaven, Upper Thames, and more will be there as well! There will be giveaways, shows, games, and more! Something you definitely don't want to miss out on!

NOTE: Here's how to participate in the City Nature Challenge BioBlitz:
From April 24-27, explore your backyard, a nearby park, or your favourite trail and take photos of any wild animals, plants, or fungi you see. Observations made in your city/town (i.e., Chatham-Kent, Sarnia, London, etc.) during this window will automatically be uploaded to that project!

Enjoy the sunny weather and we hope to see you out and about exploring and learning about nature!
