🔥 Firefighter Friday Spotlight 🔥
Meet Firefighter Andrew

This week, we’re proud to highlight Firefighter Andrew!

Andrew has been a dedicated member of the department for 13 years, bringing experience, commitment, and a strong sense of purpose to every call.

For Andrew, firefighting is all about teamwork, purpose, and community. He values the opportunity to step away from the office and into a hands-on environment where members support one another and work together toward a common goal. Over the years, he’s been able to blend his passion for emergency response and health and safety, making both a meaningful part of who he is—and something he hopes makes his family proud.

When he’s off duty, Andrew enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, following sports, and fitting in a round of golf when he can. He also appreciates the simple things—relaxing with some TV after a busy day, getting outdoors, cutting the grass, and working around the property.

Thank you, Andrew, for your years of service and for being such a valued part of our team and community!

🔥 Firefighter Friday Spotlight 🔥
Meet Firefighter Josh

Josh joined the department in December 2024 and serves out of the Melbourne Station. Since coming on board, he has quickly become a valued member of the team.

What Josh enjoys most about the role is being part of a dedicated crew that works together to support and protect the community. He takes pride not only in helping others on calls, but also in contributing to the strong sense of teamwork within the department.

When he’s not on shift, Josh enjoys spending time with his fiancé and can often be found on the court playing basketball.

Thank you, Josh, for your commitment to serving the community and for being an important part of our team!

🚑 National Paramedic Week 🚑

This week, we recognize and thank the paramedics who are ready to respond—24/7, no matter the call.

From routine medical calls to high-stress emergencies, paramedics bring professionalism, expertise, and compassion to every situation. They are often there on someone’s most difficult day, providing care and reassurance when it matters most (and yes, often running on minimal sleep and maximum dedication).

A special shout-out to our partners at Middlesex-London Paramedic Service—thank you for your continued collaboration and for the outstanding care you provide to our communities every single day.

👏 Your commitment, resilience, and teamwork do not go unnoticed.

If you see a paramedic this week, take a moment to say thank you—they’ve more than earned it.

This week on What’s That Wednesday the Strathroy Firefighters Association is sharing the Rex tool. Learn all about it.

🚨 What’s That Wednesday 🚨

This week’s tool is known as an Officer Tool, often referred to as a Rex Tool.

At first glance, it may just look like a heavy metal bar with a forked end, but this tool is one of the most versatile and important forcible entry tools carried on the fire truck.

The Rex Tool is designed to help firefighters quickly gain access into buildings during emergencies. It can be used to force doors, remove lock cylinders, pry, twist, strike, and create leverage when seconds matter most.

Its compact design makes it especially useful for commercial buildings and secured doors where traditional entry methods may take longer. When paired with other tools like a Halligan or axe, it becomes even more effective.

While forcible entry is often associated with fires, tools like this are also used during medical calls, rescues, alarm investigations, and other emergencies where rapid access can make a difference.

Simple looking tool… big job. 🔥🚒
