Hello, everybody! I hope you've all been well.

I have some very exciting news to share: We will be hosting a special session of Community Lunch Club this coming Tuesday, April 21,to honor National Volunteer Week! Kim's Katering will be doing the cooking that day to give our dedicated and treasured Lunch Club volunteers a break, but this lunch will also help us celebrate and recognize that every single person who attends Lunch Club is a volunteer in their own right. We have planned a special program that day and have planned for a few extra attendees, so if you know an outstanding community volunteer, please bring them along. Lunch Club starts at 11 am at Lord of All Lutheran Church. Please enter using the back door off the parking lot.

Kick Off Volunteer Week with a Volunteer Fair - Strathmore FCSS is hosting a Volunteer Fair tomorrow, Friday, April 17, from 3 - 6 pm at the Civic Centre. Come see me and other local groups and agencies to connect, and enter to win some great prizes!

Lunch & Learn - If you missed it, Rhonda and Renee from SAIL (Strathmore & Area Adult Inclusive Learning) will be back with 'Logging Off For Good' at the next Lunch & Learn at the County Office, Friday, April 24. Register by Monday: https://www.wfcss.org/lunch-and-learn-registration.html

Tech Talks - We are planning a hands-on, one-on-one tech support session with Rhonda and Renee from SAIL. I will have the registration information soon, but please save the date: Thursday, May 14, from 10 am to 12 pm.

Free Wellness Workshops - WFCSS is hosting four free wellness workshops in partnership with AHS Recovery Alberta. Professionals and the general public are invited to attend. Please see the attached poster for the sessions and dates and registration information.

Compass for the Caregiver - Caregiving can be a stressful, isolating, and overwhelming experience. The COMPASS for the Caregiver program helps caregivers balance their own well-being with the challenges of caregiving. Join our trained facilitator as she walks us through a 4-week course. Sessions will be held in person at the WFCSS office May 6, May 13, May 20, May 27, 2026 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm (note new session times). Attendance at all sessions will reap maximum benefit. Additional sessions will be offered in May this year - dates to be confirmed. To register or for more information, please contact Deana Nolan at (403) 934-5335 or email: [email protected]. Wheatland FCSS will absorb the registration fee and manual costs for residents of Strathmore, Wheatland County, Hussar, Rockyford, and Standard. Many thanks to them!

Cooking for One (or Two) in Rockyford - There is still some space in our fourth and final Cooking for One workshop Thursday, April 23, from 1 - 3 pm at the Rockyford Friendship Centre. I will have lots of great resources and recipes to share and we will also be making some master mixes for everyone to take home, taking the guesswork out of making four biscuits or a single pancake for example, or a single serving of dessert. I will also have a coil bound copy of 'The Senior Chef' for everyone! Please register with me soon so I know how many to prepare for. Free event for those 55+.

An Introduction to Pressing Flowers & Pressed Flower Crafts - Please note this session is full, so please let me know if you have to cancel so I can give your space to someone else. Thursday, April 30, at 1 pm at the Gleichen Community Hall.

They are truly wonderful and it is a treat to see a flock of them in a field — always a highlight when I was growing up. I found this very cool website with a crane tracking tool so you can see where have been recently; and excitingly, they have recently been spotted in Wheatland County! https://sandhillfinder.savingcranes.org/near

Hello, everyone!
I hope you're all well. We have a somewhat unpleasant start to the Easter long weekend and wet conditions are expected for the first half of April, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. In the meantime, we still have lots of things on the go at BTG while we wait for milder days.

Lunch Club on Tuesday & Request for Help - The Strathmore Ladies Choir, 'Seasoned with Time' will present their spring concert at this Tuesday's Lunch Club, April 7, at Lord of All Lutheran Church. Please note that we will start the program early, at 10:45 am, due to an event at the church later that afternoon. Anyone who could lend a hand with setting up some extra chairs and tables is kindly asked to come early and stay a bit late to help us get set up and out of the church by 1 pm. Many hands make light work and are much appreciated when we're under a time constriction. Our regular volunteers will be working to get the lunch out early so the extra help will be required.

Time for Decluttering & Purging, and Where to take it to get rid of it - Springtime is my favourite, in part because I feel energized to clean house and get rid of a lot of junk I've been collecting. Please see some more helpful resources that I've attached to help you get started, including where to take your stuff to get rid of it. If you are stuck and truly don't know where to start, please reach out and I can send you a more intensive guide, full of tips and information.

Hello Everyone.

We have a lot of new members, so we thought we would have a greet and meet including a light lunch. Chantelle and Atiya will be visiting as well, as a lot of you are aware they like to come and visit with us. They support the Happy Gang quite a bit with donations and support and keep us informed with what is happening in our community in Alberta. Chantelle is the MLA for Strathmore and the Chestermere area and will more than likely catch us up on a few things happening. She is always willing to answer questions and this would give us a chance to meet our new members, and they us and if the opportunity arises, to ask questions of Chantelle.

On this occasion should you like to extend an invitation to a family member, neighbour or a friend, please bring them along. They must be 50+ and you must sign up RSVP by 3:00pm Thursday March 26th for us to know how many to prepare lunch for.

The Greet and Meet will be held on Saturday March 28th, from 12:pm-3:pm.

Lunch being served at 12:00pm. Please remember the cardroom, capacity is 80 people so don't hesitate to sign up. A sigh up sheet will be posted on the board beside the blackboard in the card room.

Perhaps a neighbour or friend would like to join the Happy Gang after meeting us.

Saturday March the 28th from 12pm to 3pm.

Thank you to such a large and receptive crowd who turned out for Lunch Club this past Tuesday to learn about Strathmore FCSS and what they can do for you. The short answer is — just about anything! If you have questions about government benefits or supports, or need information on housing, local programs, agencies, or are concerned about a neighbor, please don't hesitate to reach out to Emily Pye, Community Development Coordinator, to Sandy Daly at the front desk, or the other members of the team (Budd, Sarah, and Diana). If they don't immediately have the answer to your question, they will try their best to find the answer for you. Their phone number is 403-934-9090 and they are located in Town Hall.

Strathmore FCSS is hosting two events this month which may interest you:
Scams & Fraud Awareness - March 24 at 10 am at the Strathmore Library

Dementia Research - The University of Calgary has reached out to BTG to help recruit volunteers for their dementia study. The U of C is currently recruiting adults aged 55 and older for the MEMORI Study, which focuses on memory, brain health, and healthy aging. The goal of this research is to better understand how everyday thinking, behaviour, and brain activity change over time, and to contribute to research that may improve early understanding of age-related cognitive changes. Many participants join not only to support research but also to gain insight into their own memory and brain health. As part of the study, participants receive clear, accessible educational materials on healthy aging and cognitive well-being. Please see their attached poster.

Nana's Naughty Knickers - She’s sweet. She’s sneaky.

And her “retirement hobby” is about to cause BIG laughs! Then sit back and laugh as Nana scrambles to hide her not so proper side hustle! Perfect for a fun night out with friends, or anyone who loves a little mischief and a LOT of comedy. The Strathmore Theatre Players Guild present 'Nana's Naughty Knickers, playing March 13 - 28 at Hope Community Covenant Church. Tickets are $20 (with a special sale, 4 for the price of 3). I will have lots of great resources and recipes to share and we will also be making some master mixes for everyone to take home, taking the guesswork out of making four biscuits or a single pancake for example, or a single serving of dessert. Please register with me soon so I know how many to prepare for. Free event for those 55+.

Functional Fitness with Julie Meier - This will be a great day, learning some easy ways to keep fit so that you may enjoy everyday activities. You'll remember Julie from the Seniors' Conference and our pole walking demonstration. This event will begin at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 10, at the Strathmore Library Program Room. Please see the attached poster, and please register with me soon.

Free Matinee - These are always so much fun. And thanks to our friends Justin Hansen and Judy Forsyth at our local ATB, we get to have three free matinees this year! Thanks to them for their sponsorship. We will be showing 'The Bucket List' with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson at Joyland Theatre on Thursday, March 19. Doors open at 12:30 pm and the show starts at 1 pm. Please remember to bring cash for popcorn and treats as the concession will be open.

Lunch Club - We are back at Lunch Club Tuesday, March 17. Laura from the Library will be on hand to give us an overview of all the services (and there are many!) that the Library provides.

5 For Life Book Sale - This Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7 at Hope Community Covenant Church. The sale runs from 1 - 6 pm on the Friday, and from 9 am to 3 pm on the Saturday.

That's it for this week friends. Stay well!

Kindest regards,

Nancy van Egmond
