โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿซถ Critical Incident Training Seminar - Therapy Dog ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ•

When most people think of St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog teams, they picture visits to schools, libraries, hospitals, and long-term care homes.

What many don't realize is that teams are sometimes called upon during some of the hardest moments a community can face.
Following a tragic loss, a serious accident, or a major critical incident, our teams may be asked to support grieving students, affected families, community members, or even first responders coping with the emotional impact of what they've experienced.

Last weekend, nearly 30 MidWestern Region Therapy Dog volunteers gathered in Hanover for our first In-House Critical Incident Training Seminar, led by Therapy Dog Advisor Wendy Donaldson.

The day focused on preparing teams for these challenging calls, with sessions on volunteer wellness, Therapy Dog wellness, media relations, administrative expectations, and insights from our local School Board partners.

A Therapy Dog can't change what happened. But sometimes a quiet presence, a listening ear, and a warm nose can help someone take the first step toward healing.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day a success.

๐ŸŒˆ Stratford Pride Festival ๐ŸŒˆ

Today, we were at the Stratford Pride Festival in Upper Queenโ€™s Park to ensure medical readiness and first aid support for this family-friendly event, which filled the afternoon with celebration, performances, and community engagement.

The Pride Festival helps launch Pride Month, which begins tomorrow, June 1st.

Thank you Stratford-Perth Pride for having us. It was our pleasure to be there and support our community.

๐ŸšจAcross Ontario, first aid training is entering a new chapter. Beginning June 22, 2026, training providers will transition to programs designed to meet the CSA Z1210-24 Standard, a Canada-wide benchmark developed by the Canadian Standards Association Group.

This shift reflects Ontarioโ€™s move toward a unified national approach, ensuring training is consistent, evidence-based, and comparable across jurisdictions. For learners, skills will more easily transfer elsewhere in Canada. For employers, it reduces administrative complexity and ensures a common level of training for staff.

Importantly, oversight remains provincial. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) will continue to approve training providers in Ontario, ensuring quality and accountability. The CSA standard defines how training is structured nationwide, but does not replace Ontarioโ€™s authority.

For St. John Ambulance, this is an opportunity to continue leading in high-quality, compliant training. Since January 2026, we have been proactively delivering training designed to meet the CSA Z1210-24 standard, supporting our customers through this transition while maintaining strict alignment with WSIB regulations.

You can expect the same trusted training experience:
- Updated, standards-aligned course content.
- Continued focus on hands-on, practical skills.
- Flexible delivery options (including blended learning for Intermediate First Aid).
- Experienced, highly qualified instructors.

St. John Ambulance remains a leading provider to rely on during and after this transition.

*Please note: This change only impacts first aid training. It does not impact regulations around first aid products like kits, AEDs, and supplies. Since 2021, St. John Ambulance Ontario has sold first aid kits designed to comply with the CSA Z1220-17 standard.
