TREASURE HUNT WEEKEND

This is a Treasure Hunt in the City of Stratford - an opportunity for residents to recycle any unwanted household items simply by placing them at the curb.

Materials can be put out starting at 4 p.m. today (Friday) for anyone in the community to collect. Any unclaimed items must be removed by the curb by 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Please remember not to leave any items you want to keep, including children’s toys or bicycles, near the curb during the Treasure Hunt weekend.

The goal of the event is to promote recycling and keep materials with some useful life out of Stratford’s landfill site.

ENCAMPMENT RESPONSE UPDATE - JUNE 18, 2026

Here are a few things that you’re likely getting tired of hearing when it comes to homelessness, and encampments within our community:

* The situation is complex
* It requires a coordinated approach
* We’re trying to balance the needs of unhoused individuals with the concerns of the community

All of those things are absolutely true, but can sometimes sound hollow and repetitive.

So we’d like to take this opportunity to share a few specific details about the City of Stratford's encampment response, some progress we’ve made and challenges we continue to face.

So far this month, we have helped 10 people who were living in encampments find safer and more appropriate housing.

Members of our Social Services outreach team visit the encampments every day with that same goal in mind - to connect individuals with local housing options, as well as food, medical care, clothing and other essentials.

So if we’re helping to find housing for unhoused individuals, why do the encampments like the one near the Downie Street parking lot seem to be growing in size?

Simply put, new people are moving in to encampments as others move out. Some are just visiting. And in some cases, individuals may set up multiple tents.

As we continue to work at addressing the immediate and longer-term needs of those living in encampments, we recognize that neighbours, like many in the community, are concerned and frustrated.

But we urge everyone to be patient, and compassionate.

Please do not confront individuals in encampments or disturb belongings at the sites. If there is an immediate safety concern, contact police and allow outreach workers, staff, and emergency services to respond.

Thank you.

Briarhill Drive, from Britannia Street to Windemere Crescent, will be closed to through traffic on Friday, June 19, 2026 for several hours beginning at 8 a.m.

This temporary road closure is to allow for the repair of a leaking watermain valve at the intersection of Britannia Street and Briarhill Drive.

Please note that the water supply to properties near the intersection will be interrupted during this repair work.

Once the repairs are complete, homes in the area may experience discoloured water. If your water is discoloured, flush the lines by running the cold water for 10-15 minutes or until it clears.
