September is blowing in (quite literally), and so is our Fall programming.

For some of you, THIS is the “new year.” So of course, we’re launching plenty of new programs, and bringing back many that you love.

Shirts. Hats. Hoodies. Totes. We’re having a lot of fun offering swag the community feels connected to. And even more fun when it’s something meaningful to us, too. 🤘🏽

🐿️ In case you weren’t aware, we have a thing about squirrels around here haha. And while the beloved taxidermy squirrels that once lived in the children’s books area are no longer around, we keep them deep in our hearts — and on our t-shirts.

A huge thanks to our very own Library Assistant, Brock Wreford, and our friend, Evan Thompson, for making this fun design happen. We have a whole bunch of designs now available to order. Supplied by Mosaic Outfitters, using The Authentic T-Shirt Company.

Please join us in celebrating our friend, colleague, Library Page of Stacking & Shelving Awesomeness, Donna Racine-Wilson, as we wish her a marvellous retirement.

This week we say bon voyage to the wonderful Donna, whose last day with us is Friday, September 4. As she enters this new chapter, Donna and her husband are making plans for more travel — after already travelling in throughout Europe, United States, Canada, South-East Asia, Caribbean... AND living in Yellowknife for 10 years.

We asked Donna what she's enjoyed most from her 10 years at SPL, and without skipping a beat she replied: "The people! I love my co-workers and the patrons, and buzzing around always moving. I also love solving mysteries and making sure things are done right."

We asked some of her colleagues what they love about Donna and everyone had lots to say:
"Her infectious laugh."
"Her laughter echoing through the hallways — so contagious."
"Always has positive feedback — and notices the little things others don't."
"Most contagious laugh!"
"She's like literally a joy. Radiates so much positivity."
"Always stops and makes a point to say hello and notice you."
"I always look forward to seeing her in the morning. I will so miss her contagious laugh."
"Great laugh. Reminds me that I could use an attitude adjustment when I come in with a bad mood, and she's in a great mood."

We're sensing a theme here haha. That wonderful laugh! Her kind heart, speedy work, willingness to go along with anything the social media gal asks her to do in videos haha.

Thank you, Donna, for being such a light here at SPL! We will miss you! xoxoxo

Dolly Parton believed every child deserved a book.

And she went on to leave behind an unbelievable legacy. Dolly’s Imagination Library has provided over 300 million children with more than 332 million books since 1995.

She truly was something!!

We’ve gathered some books by and about Dolly, along with CDs and DVDs, for anyone who’d like to spend a little time with her.

What is this dream team up to? Ohhhhh... just planning more shenanigans for the Library Garden.

What an incredible summer it's been. We know it isn't quite over yet! But the summer programming for kiddos has come to its close. So we're having a party 🎉🥳 on Wednesday afternoon, starting with a final Noon Kazoo.

You'll get your chance to say goodbye to Emilie and Owen, as they head off to do other cool things. Gosh we're going to miss them. They've lit up so many sweet kid faces with their creative ideas, enthusiasm, and warmth.

And you just might want to come give Trish a big hug, too. More about that coming soon! 😢

Come with hugs for this gang, and ready for toot-a-loo to your favourite tune. Plus games, snacks, crafts, and prizes.

P.S. TDSRC Bingo Cards: We have a slight delay on our round 3 prize -- if you are expecting to pick up a water bottle prize, please wait until Wednesday afternoon! See you then. (And come find us on the Children's Floor if it's raining. But it won't. But just in case it does haha.)

It’s gonna be a rainy week. But we’re here. And we’re pretty awesome.

We’ve got Multiverse the next two weeks. The LEGO Mosaic is slowly building. And our End of Summer Celebration on Wednesday. (With a final Noon Kazoo.)

And we’ve got Sanam wearing the perfect cozy sweater today.

We are excited about SO MANY THINGS you see here. You may recognize Germán from being a superstar volunteer in the MakerSpace and -- lucky for us AND you -- we're about to see a whole lot more of them. Wooohooo.

Germán Gaussmann is our newest Adult Page hire and we're delighted. Germán comes to us from a background in software, events, game design and higher ed. They're excited to be joining us, when they can pull themselves away from their wife, baby and cats.

But we're also VERY excited about this t-shirt. It's one of many swag designs now available to order (check the comments). It was designed by our very own Brock Wreford, and our friend, Evan Thompson.
