Galt Historic Railway Park

Galt Historic Railway Park Straddling the Canada – US border from 1890 -1916, it is the only existing example of this kind of structure left in Western Canada.

The Galt Historic Railway Park, collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts representing the “steam & coal” eras in southern Alberta, with emphasis on Galt Railway and the 1890 International Train Station from Coutts, AB / Sweetgrass, MT. The International Border ran through the waiting/dining room. The Telegrapher and Station Agent worked in the center section, arranging shipment in Bond to pro

ceed from Coutts, Alberta to Sweetgrass, Montana, and vice-versa. It was one of only two “Lunch Stations” along the railway line which ran from Lethbridge, Alberta to Great Falls, Montana. Around 1916, the northern part of the station was moved across the border to Coutts, where it was used by the Canadian Pacific Railway until the late 1980′s. In 2000, the station was bought by the Great Canadian Plains Railway Society and moved to a 35-acre site, 1 km north of the village of Stirling, where it has been completely restored. We will be hosting a Father’s Day Challenge on June 20th, 2026 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Galt Historic Railway Park.

Entry is by donation.

All equipment for games will be provided, and the games will be spread throughout the Park.

There will be a barbecue lunch available starting at noon: $5.00 per person which includes a hamburger, pop and chips.

Phase 2 of our historic window replacement will occur in early June, with 3 wooden windows in the Canadian end being replaced.
