For those of you who weren't able to watch the forum, I thought I would post my closing statement here (I know ... it's a lot to read) - Because it was awesome!
CLOSING STATEMENT:
A trustee has a pivotal role in determining the policy that impacts the education of all our children. We are very lucky to live in a community where our teachers excel, they care about our children and education is paramount. However, each year the board faces tough decisions on how to allocate our resources.
As a trustee I am going to keep my page up and running. You can reach me there. You can call me, email me, stop me in the grocery store - If you have an issue, I will be available and open to discussion. I will be accessible to all members of the community, the parents, the teachers and staff of the school, the administration and anyone else who wants their voice to be heard. I will try my best to make your issues and concerns the focus of my service on the board. I will continue to be involved in the schools, volunteering and listening to you. I will be an advocate with the schools and parents. I will pursue opportunities for schools and the community to work together. I want to help guide the future of our school division, especially the financial matters, such as budget and accountability. Budgeting is tough, and it gets tougher every year. I believe that we can work together to find creative solutions to address the challenges we face as a rural community while maintaining the superior quality of education we have come to expect.
My financial background allows me to understand how the budgeting of the school board is prepared. Because I have been an employee of the school division, I am well equipped to understand and work with students, parents, administration and Clearview staff.
I have been actively involved with the Stettler schools since my oldest daughter started kindergarten 10 years ago. I’ve made countless hot lunches, attended who knows how many school council meetings, befriended the staff, and solved many, many online ordering issues for parents. And I will continue to participate in those activities.
School is tough, but we can help our kids as they strive to reach their potential by collaborating with students, parents, teachers and staff. I am committed to continuing to make improvements to our educational system which will take us to an even higher level.
I happen to be the only female candidate, but don’t just vote for me because of that.
I happen to be a mother of three kids, but don’t just vote for me because of that.
I happen to have wonderful people around me who won’t seem to stop encouraging me to be up here, but don’t just vote for me because of that.
I happen to have years of financial experience, I was lucky enough to work in the schools, to volunteer in the schools, and be the treasurer for the elementary school council, but don’t just vote for me because of that.
But, when you combine all those things and all that I have done so far - you see a person who's dedicated to Stettler and your children and that's who you should vote for.
My name is Becky Scott and I want your vote.
