We love rain gardens so much we would like to fund one in your yard!

A rain garden is a perennial garden planted in a shallow depression designed to capture and use water that may otherwise runoff.

The SRRWD Rain Garden program provides funding and design support to property owners who wish to implement a rain garden to capture surface water runoff, rainwater, or sump pump discharge. Rain gardens do NOT create standing pools of water but rather are a designated place for water to infiltrate into the ground (generally within 24 – 48 hours of a rain event). The SRRWD will provide up to $5,000.00 (50% cost-share) for schools and public spaces to establish a rain garden. We also provide grants of $750.00 to homeowners who establish a rain garden on their property. Click on Fund Your Project on the links in our bio and you'll find the Rain Gardens application form.

June 5, 2026 is , a day that focuses on climate change—on the urgent signals the Earth is sending and the signals we choose to send back. Bee populations send us many messages and we can respond by doing our best to protect and provide spaces where bees can thrive, like planting a pollinator garden!

United Nations Environment Program’s global campaign calls on all of us to step in , and steer a world already in motion and every small step makes a difference.

Did you miss our private well sampling last week? Well, lucky for you, we are once again offering private well sampling on June 25th! This is the last one SRRWD is offering this summer, so be sure to pick up your sample bottles while you still can. There are various RM locations throughout the watershed where you can pick up sample bottles and application forms. These need to be done before the drop off date.

The samples cost landowners $17.67, including tax. This can be provided in cash or cheques made out to Duracan Ltd. Participating landowners are expected to take the sample the morning of their drop off date and deliver it to their RM's location before 10 am that day. If you have any questions about this upcoming event, you can call us at 204-326-1030 or email [email protected].

Did you know, it typically takes 14-16 weeks for frogspawn (eggs) to metamorphose into frogs? Amazingly, tadpoles are able to control the timing of their transformation. They can speed it up if their environment is full of predators or they can slow it down if land temperatures are too cold. You can find many frogs at Tourond Creek Discovery Centre!
