On the behalf of the Ste Anne Fire Department,

We are saddened of the loss of one of our past dedicated volunteer firefighters and community member.

Cameron was a valued member of our department and someone we could always count on. His commitment to serving the community and supporting fellow firefighters did not go unnoticed, and he will be missed by all who had the chance to work alongside them.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

Thank you for your service, Cameron. Rest in peace. 🚒

We currently have about 24 active members, and we meet every second Monday evening to train for all kinds of emergencies. Everything from vehicle fires to grass fires and more. Training regularly helps us stay ready when our community needs us most.

⚠️ Traffic Safety Reminder
Please be extra careful at the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 210. We’ve responded to several accidents there over the past few months, along with many close calls. If you can, consider using the Highway 12 overpass as a safer alternative when travelling through
Ste. Anne.

🔥 Wildfire Season Awareness
We recently met with the province to prepare for wildfire season. Conditions can change quickly, so staying aware is key. Did you know embers from a fire can travel 1.6 to 3.2 km ahead and in extreme cases, up to 40 km? That’s why prevention matters.

🏡 Protect Your Home
A few simple steps can make a big difference:
• Create a 30-metre defensible space around your home
• Keep a 1.5-metre non-combustible zone right around buildings (gravel instead of wood chips works well)
• Clean debris from roofs and gutters
• Keep your lawn trimmed (about 4 inches)
• Store firewood and propane away from structures
If a fire is approaching, close all windows, doors, and garage doors to help keep embers out.

📞 When in Doubt Call 911
If you think there may be a fire, don’t hesitate. Call 911 right away so we can respond quickly.

🚧 Driveway Access Matters
Make sure your driveway is wide and clear. If it’s difficult for you to access, it’s even harder for emergency vehicles.

🍔 Spring Reminder
Spring is here! Before firing up the BBQ, make sure it’s clean and in good working condition.

Stay safe and enjoy the season!

Department Activity Update 2025 Year in Review

The 2025 calendar year proved to be a very active one for our department. Throughout the year, we responded to a total of 106 calls, representing a 16% increase from the previous year. These numbers do not include our biweekly fire drills, volunteer hours dedicated throughout the area, or our participation in wildfire response efforts.
We are extremely fortunate to have a strong, dedicated, and committed crew whose efforts allow our department to respond to every call in a timely and professional manner.
Some examples of the incidents we responded to in 2025 include:
• 8 structure fires
• 31 motor vehicle collisions
• 8 carbon monoxide calls
• 60 additional calls of various types
We would also like to remind everyone to regularly check their smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, paying close attention to battery replacements and expiration dates. Many of our carbon monoxide calls are the result of detectors needing new batteries.
Please remember that our department is 100% volunteer-based. In the event of an emergency, always dial 911. Do not call the fire department landline, as the station is not staffed.
Thank you for your continued support.
Have a safe and happy 2026!

⚡️Advice for Larger Battery Systems⚡️
If you use e-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, or energy storage systems, you’re relying on powerful lithium-ion batteries. These batteries pack a punch but they also need proper care to stay safe! 🔋🔥

👉 Use:
✅ Always use the original batteries that came with your product.
✅ Bring batteries to room temperature before charging — never charge below 0°C.
🚫 Don’t try to modify or repair lithium-ion batteries yourself.

👉 Storage:
💡 Store at about 50% charge if you’re not using them for a while.
🌡️ Keep them between 5°C and 20°C in a dry place.
🚫 Avoid storing near flammable materials or stacking heavy items on top.

👉 Disposal:
🗑️ Lithium-ion batteries are hazardous waste — never throw them in the garbage!
♻️ Contact your local municipality for proper disposal options.
Stay powered and stay safe! ⚡️💚

🍂 Cooler Weather Safety Reminder! 🍂

As the temps start to drop, now’s the perfect time to make sure your home is ready for the season:

🔥 Furnace Check:
Make sure your furnace is in good working order and that nothing is blocking it from running efficiently.

🌡️ Space Heater Safety:
If you’re using a space heater, keep it at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn and always turn it off when you leave the room or head to bed.

🚨 Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms:
Test your alarms to be sure they’re working properly, and make sure everyone in your home knows what to do if one goes off.

🕯️ Candle Caution:
If you leave the room, blow out your candles! Keep them in sturdy holders and away from anything that can catch fire.

👩‍🍳 Hot Stuff in the Kitchen:
Keep kids away from cooking areas. Use the back burners first and turn pot handles inward no one wants a “hot mess” in the kitchen!

Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy the cozy season ahead! 🍁

🚨 Rail Safety Week 🚨

This week is Rail Safety Week, and we want to remind everyone in our community to stay safe around trains and railway crossings.

Since the main railway runs right through Ste. Anne, please take a moment to discuss rail safety with your children and family.

✅ Always stop, look, and listen at railway crossings.
✅ Never try to beat a train-it’s faster and closer than it looks.
✅ Stay off railway property-tracks are for trains only.

Let’s all do our part to keep Ste. Anne safe. Please respect trains and keep these safety tips in mind.

Stay safe,
-Robert Saindon

🍽️ Community Appreciation
On Friday, September 12th, our members were treated to a fantastic appreciation lunch at La Cocina Chips.
This generous gesture came after our department helped with a situation at their facility. Not only was lunch delicious, but we also received a thoughtful donation from La Cocina Foods that will be put to good use!
🙌 Thank you again to La Cocina Foods for your kindness and support.

✅ Fundraiser Success!
On September 13th, we served a record 394 breakfasts in support of our local food bank!
🙏 A big thank you to:
• Maple Leaf Foods for providing the delicious ham 🍖
• Old 12 Café (special thanks to Celeste and staff!) for helping us through a coffee shortage ☕
• McDonald’s for the extra coffee and muffins 🥯
👏 Our Department Members did an amazing job making this event a success.
💙 And of course, thank you to everyone who attended and donated to such a great cause.
