We are still ready and available to respond to all emergencies, we ask that all residents to exercise extra caution today.

Environment Canada has forecasted high winds with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h, which can be favorable for fire spread.

The Manitoba government, the Office of the Fire Commissioner and the Manitoba Firefighters’ Burn Fund are offering the Smoke Alarm For Every (S.A.F.E.) Family program.

The goal of the program is to save lives by protecting at-risk residents with a working smoke alarm and encouraging families to make and practice a home fire escape plan.

Since the program started in 2015, fire departments across the province have installed more than 7,200 smoke alarms in eligible homes.

How it works:
All Manitoba fire departments are encouraged to offer the S.A.F.E. Family program in their community. They will promote and deliver the program in eligible homes.

Fire department personnel will visit the eligible homes and install smoke alarms in hallways outside of bedrooms (with a maximum of two smoke alarms per home).

Who qualifies:
Eligible homes include those with at-risk residents, including older adults, newcomers to Manitoba, young children, people with disabilities and low-income families.

Only owner-occupied homes qualify for the S.A.F.E. Family program, since landlords are responsible for installing and maintaining smoke alarms in their rental units.

Applications will be available at the R.M Office Tuesday(May 12th)
and can be picked up during normal business hours.

Today, we join communities across the country in recognizing the incredible bravery, dedication, and selflessness of firefighters.

From handling emergency responses to attending safety education programs, we are so proud of the dedication and hard work our firefighters bring to the RM of St. Laurent.

We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families behind the scenes. Your support makes it possible for our team to answer the call whenever the community needs them most.

We had a great weekend at the Wildland Firefighting Training Course! Some members of our team spent the last three days sharpening our skills and preparing for the upcoming season.

A huge thank you to our instructors, David and Richard, for sharing your expertise.

It was also a pleasure working with the crew from Woodlands Fire Department.

Great weekend of training with our friends from the Woodlands Fire Department!

Strengthening our skills in Wildland Firefighting ensures we’re all better prepared for the season ahead. Thanks for making the trip over!

This weekend, several of our members will be away attending two separate, training sessions to sharpen our skills and better protect our community.

While we will still be responding to emergencies, our on-site numbers will be limited. We’re asking everyone to be extra "fire-smart" this weekend:

Burn Quality (Wind Directions/Speeds etc): Please verify the current fire danger levels before any outdoor burning.
Friendly reminder any burning that isn't in a fire pit that meets our guidelines 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 a Burning Permit(Which can be obtained by calling the R.M Office)

ORV Safety: If you're heading out on the trails, please wear your gear and ride responsibly.

Watch the Little Things: Double-check that stoves are off and lithium-ion batteries are charging on hard, flat surfaces.

Thank you for helping us keep St. Laurent safe while we work on bringing new skills back to the department!

As the weather warms up and conditions in the RM of St. Laurent become increasingly dry, we want to ensure everyone stays safe while enjoying the outdoors.

Burn Permits are REQUIRED!

A reminder to all residents that any outdoor burning requires a valid burn permit.

Before you light that fire, please ensure you have the proper authorization.

How to get one: Please call the RM office to obtain your permit before you start any burning.

Why it matters: This helps our department track where controlled burns are happening and ensures you are aware of the current fire risk levels.

Tips to Make Your Yard Fire-Safe
With dry conditions setting in, a small spark can spread quickly.

Create a "Clean Zone": Clear away dry grass, dead leaves, and pine needles within 10 feet of any fire pit or structure.

Watch the Wind: Never start a fire on a windy day. Embers can travel surprisingly far and ignite dry brush or neighbor's property.

Big Thanks to Our Volunteers! ❤️

It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re sending a huge shoutout to everyone in our community and surrounding neighbors who gives their time to help others.

Whether you’re coaching sports, helping a neighbor, or sitting on a local board. We see your dedication and we appreciate the spirit of service you bring to our town!

The St. Laurent Fire Department has successfully wrapped up today’s Live Burn Training Exercise on Kerbrat Bay.

Thank You, St. Laurent!

We want to extend a huge thank you to the community for your cooperation today. By staying clear of the area and giving our crews the space to work, you helped us complete this training safely.

The area is now clear, though a slight scent of smoke may linger for a short while.
