Ashley is a Registered Social Worker and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst with over 15 years of experience supporting children, youth, adults, and families. She is the Owner and Founder of Lumina Social Work and Behavioral Services Inc. Her trauma-informed, strengths-based approach focuses on helping individuals build meaningful skills, strengthen emotional regulation, and move toward greater independence.

Ashley offers behavioural consultation, parent coaching, and individualized behavioural support, with areas of focus including neurodiversity, communication, life skills, emotional regulation, and caregiver support.

Through a compassionate and practical approach, Ashley works alongside individuals and families to create strategies that honour their strengths, values, and unique needs.

💚 Behaviour is communication.

When a behaviour feels challenging, it can be easy to focus on stopping what we see. But behaviour often tells us something important about a person’s needs, skills, environment, experiences, or ability to communicate in that moment.

Instead of only asking, “How do we stop this behaviour?” we can start asking:

🌿 What might this behaviour be communicating?
🌿 What need is being met?
🌿 What skill may be missing?
🌿 What can we change in the environment?
🌿 What can we teach instead?

Understanding the why behind behaviour allows us to move from reacting to supporting — using strategies that teach new skills, strengthen communication, and create meaningful, lasting change.

The four functions of behaviour are an important foundation for understanding why behaviours happen.

But real-life behaviour is often more complex than a single explanation.

Behaviours can serve multiple functions at once, and understanding the full picture requires looking deeper than what we see on the surface.

When we take the time to truly understand the individual, their environment, and what they may be communicating through their behaviour, support becomes more compassionate, meaningful, and effective. 💛

This structured, evidence-based program helps caregivers better understand and support their child’s behaviour. Through step-by-step guidance, you’ll build practical skills that create meaningful, lasting change in everyday life.

Developed by Karen Bearss and colleagues at the RUBI Autism Network, RUBI is grounded in strong research and real-world application.

In Newfoundland & Labrador, publicly funded ABA services are typically only available until the end of Grade 3.

But support shouldn’t have an age limit.

At Lumina Social Work and Behavioral Services, we offer ABA across the lifespan—from early childhood through adolescence and into adulthood.
