Survey of the Coast of Newfoundland from Trinity Harbour to Cape Freels by George Holbrook and William Bullock. Unlike last week’s map, which was rather simplistic, this map from 1817 is bursting with details. It includes relief shown with shading and depths shown by soundings. As well as 7 different coastal views.

Caption: “Harbour Grace – St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral (above) is one of the most historic in the Island with records dating back to 1740. Built in 1835, this is the third church to be erected on this site. It has beautiful stained glass windows and is patterned on the style of an old English village church. It was a garrison church in the early 19th century and the Royal Coat of Arms may still be seen on the wall in the West gallery.”

My family history : term paper by Jim Butler. Most of these student papers are all from the same history class in 1997. I think they are a great snapshot of oral family history. Butler goes back to his great grandparents on both sides, Butler and Jennings, and follows their lives forward to the present day. His paper ends with a family tree.

Here ends our trivia fun, friends. I want to thank you all for playing, it's been fun and I learned a lot from you all. We might be back in the Fall with something new, I'll have a look at what other games are on the shelf.

The Coast of Newfoundland Drawn for the Newfoundland and British North America School Society. This 1838 map is of the island, this a simply map of the coast with no relief of the interior shown, no sounding depths. One interesting feature is the school room blue print inset in the lower left corner.
