Municipalities Newfoundland & Labrador

Municipalities Newfoundland & Labrador Empowering and supporting local governments to build vibrant communities. Our membership includes all incorporated municipalities in N.L.

Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador is a non-profit, membership-based advocacy organization. MNL’s page is guided by our Respectful Workplace Policy. The policy is as follows:
The open exchange of ideas, freedom of thought and expression, and productive debate are key to the objectives of MNL. This requires an environment that embraces diversity and provides a safe, welcoming environ

ment for all. This policy applies to all MNL activities, including:
* conferences, symposia, workshops, and events sponsored, co-sponsored, or in cooperation with MNL;
* MNL member meetings;
* exchanges among committees or other bodies associated with MNL activities publications and communications sent through communication channels associated with MNL, including social media. Expected Behaviour
We expect all participants in MNL activities to abide by this policy in all venues, including ancillary events and unofficial social gatherings:
* Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions;
* Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech;
* Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants;
* Alert community leaders if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this policy, even if they seem inconsequential. Unacceptable at any MNL activity is:
* Abuse: Any action directed at an individual that (a) interferes substantially with that person’s participation; or (b) causes that person to fear for his/her personal safety. This includes threats, intimidation, bullying, stalking, or other types of abuse.
* Discriminatory Harassment: Any conduct that discriminates or denigrates an individual on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, citizenship, nationality, age, sexual or gender identity, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law in the location where the

MNL activity takes place.
* Sexual Harassment: Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, or other verbal/physical conduct of a sexual nature. Harassment can occur when there is no deliberate intention to offend. Be careful in the words that you choose. Harassment committed in a joking manner or disguised as a compliment still constitutes unacceptable behaviour. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you. Consequences of Unacceptable Behaviour
If a participant in an MNL activity engages in prohibited behaviour, MNL reserves the right to take any action MNL deems appropriate. MNL reserves the right to:
* remove an individual from any MNL activity without warning or refund;
* prohibit an individual from participating in future MNL activities, including publishing in MNL publications;
* exclude an individual from MNL leadership positions;
* exclude any individual from deriving other benefits from MNL activities;
* suspend or terminate membership in MNL. If unacceptable behaviour (as noted above) is exhibited on this page the individual and/or their comments will be removed by the administrator.

Town of Massey Drive has partnered with Climate-Ready NL to help the Town prepare for impacts of climate change. Part of the process is to gather local knowledge and identify concerns from the residents of the Town. This information will help record and map climate related hazards and risks and associated barriers. This information will then help inform our Emergency Response Plan. Join us at the Town Hall on Thursday, June 11th between 10am-7pm for a chat about your climate change observations and concerns.

Hello Firefighters, the Recruitment and Retention (R&R) Committee needs your help filling out the second survey. They have been working diligently to provide a pair of surveys for the NLAFS membership. This second survey is designed for all Firefighters and we need your voice. It can be accessed using the following link:
https://forms.gle/vKQjFkoaLw8n6Ugu6

We recognize that first responder recruitment and retention is on the minds of most Fire Department, therefore we’re asking in this survey that we designed to be completed by individual Firefighters (Part 2).

By participating, you will contribute to building the knowledge your Association needs to identify current Firefighting challenges and opportunities in our province. This will aid the NLAFS in strengthening our three pillars: advocacy, education and member services. NLAFS is pleased to have representatives of Municipalities NL and Professional Municipal Administrators working with us on this important topic.

You can find our committee member listing here:

Reach out to any member if needed.
We thank you all for your service to your communities and would also like to thank all of our committee members and chair for their hard work and dedication to this committee.

Good things happen when we work together to solve shared challenges, which is why MNL embraces a collaborative approach to its work. For a solution to be effective, all those affected need to be involved from the beginning. An imposed decision without stakeholder input is not a solution - it is simply a new set of problems. MNL looks forward to strengthening existing relationships, building new partnerships, and collaborating on solutions that encourage municipal progress.

As Municipal Awareness Week comes to a close, we want to recognize and thank municipal council members and administrators across Newfoundland and Labrador for their dedication and service to communities throughout the province.

Our members play an essential role in setting policy and governing communities. Their leadership and commitment help build strong, effective, and resilient communities.

To all council members, and municipal staff — thank you for the important work you do on behalf of residents across the province.

As Municipal Awareness Week winds down, we want to take some time to acknowledge the hard-work and dedication of municipal administrators across the province.

PMA members work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver the essential services that keep our communities running smoothly, and their efforts do not go unnoticed. From managing daily operations, to ensuring their residents have access to clean drinking water--the work of municipal administrators create the foundation of strong communities.

Thank you to the Town Clerks, Managers, CAO's and all municipal staff for their commitment to helping build and maintain resilient communities. We appreciate all that you do.
