πŸ’™ Connection matters.

Urie Bronfenbrenner's words remind us of the powerful impact that caring, committed relationships can have in the lives of children and youth.

Whether through families, communities, education, or Child and Youth Care practice, meaningful connections help create opportunities for growth, resilience, and belonging.

As we prepare to gather at the 2026 World Child & Youth Care Conference, we are reminded that healing often begins with connection.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, more than 900 children and youth are currently in care and unable to live with their families. The province continues to face a critical shortage of foster homes, meaning some children must be placed far from their communities, schools, friends, and support networks.

For many children, family based care provides more than a roof over their headβ€”it offers stability, connection, belonging, and hope during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Becoming a family based carer doesn't require perfection. It requires compassion, patience, and a willingness to open your heart and home to a child who needs support.

The need is real. The impact is lifelong.

If you have ever considered fostering, now is the time to learn more. One caring home can change the trajectory of a child's life. ❀️

Every moment matters in the life of a child. πŸ’›

Family-Based Carers make a difference in ways that are both big and small β€” from helping with homework, attending appointments, sharing a meal, offering encouragement, or simply being a safe and consistent presence at the end of the day.

No matter the action.
No matter how big or small.
Every moment counts.

Children and youth thrive through connection, stability, patience, and care. The everyday moments carers provide can help build confidence, trust, healing, and hope for the future.

Thank you to all carers and caregivers who continue to open their hearts and homes to children and youth in need. Your impact is lasting, and your care truly matters. πŸ’™

June is Pride Month β€” a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, respected, and accepted for who they are.

At its heart, Pride is about belonging, authenticity, and the freedom to live openly without fear of judgment or discrimination. Small acts of kindness, acceptance, and support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us.

This month, and every month, let's continue to foster communities built on compassion, understanding, and inclusion.

Every child deserves more than a place to stay β€” they deserve connection, stability, safety, and a sense of belonging.

Family-based carers play a vital role in helping children and youth heal, grow, and feel supported during some of the most difficult times in their lives. A caring adult can make a lifelong difference simply by showing up consistently, offering compassion, and creating a safe home environment.

The need for foster families continues to grow, and every new family opens the door for a child to remain connected to their community, culture, school, and important relationships.

By recruiting more family-based carers, we create stronger communities and brighter futures for children and youth who need it most.
