πΏ Invasive Species Awareness Week (April 19β25)
This year, weβre highlighting the growing threat of the emerald ash borer (EAB), first detected in Winnipeg. While only about 22 trees were affected between 2017 and 2025, dozens of new cases have already been identified in 2026 and impacted trees must be removed.
EAB has devastated ash populations in other regions, including Ontario, where black ash is now listed as endangered.
Did you know? EAB can only fly about 15 km - most long-distance spread happens when people move firewood.
π« It is illegal to move firewood out of Winnipeg without permission.
π₯ Buy and burn firewood locally when camping or travelling.
Ash trees are common in our municipality and help protect our riverbanks. Letβs keep them that way π

By keeping firewood local, you can help protect our urban forest and slow the spread of emerald ash borer. Thank you for doing your part to protect Manitobaβs trees.
