Richmond County Awards Celebration & Scholarships:
Last week, the Municipality of the County of Richmond and the Village of St. Peter’s were honoured to host the NSLEO Access Awareness Week Scholarships and the Richmond County Inclusion Diversity Equity Accessible (IDEA) 2026 Community Champion Award.
The Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities (NSLEO) scholarships recognize that, in addition to the financial challenges of pursuing post-secondary education, students with disabilities often face additional expenses related to their accessibility needs. Thanks to the generous support of long-time sponsors Casino Nova Scotia (Halifax and Sydney) and Scotiabank, these scholarships are made available.
We were also proud to host the Richmond County Inclusion Diversity Equity Accessible (IDEA) 2026 Community Champion Awards. These awards honour individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to remove barriers, enrich lives, and advocate for inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible (IDEA) spaces. All nominees were put forward by members of their communities.
Our heartfelt congratulations to the NSLEO Scholarship recipients:
• Trena Procure
•Marek McCarthy
As well as the 2026 Richmond County Inclusion Diversity Equity Accessible (IDEA) 2026 Community Champion Award
Recipients:
• Nancy Marchand
• Richard Landry
• Marie Burkey
Lastly, many thanks to all our partners: NSLEO, YMCA of Cape Breton, and the Village of St. Peter's
