June is National Indigenous History Month

Throughout June, we recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.

The Sea to Sky School District joins communities across the country in honouring the achievements, resilience, and enduring presence of Indigenous Peoples. We encourage our students, staff, families, and community members to take time this month to engage with Indigenous stories, perspectives, traditions, and cultures, helping to deepen understanding and foster meaningful connections.

Together, we can continue learning, listening, and building relationships grounded in respect and reconciliation.

May 5 is Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness and Action honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People (MMIWG2S+). Originating from the REDress Project by Métis artist Jaime Black, this day is marked by red dresses displayed in public spaces and worn in solidarity. We invite our Sea to Sky community to reflect, remember, and stand in allyship.

If you would like to learn more or find support resources, please visit:

Indigenous women and girls are more likely to go missing or to be murdered than non-Indigenous women and girls. We are working with provinces, territories, Indigenous organizations and communities nationwide to end this crisis and ensure their safety.

Canadian Mental Health Week (May 4–10) is a time to raise awareness and support positive mental health. Sea to Sky School District is recognizing this year’s theme, Come Together, Canada, which highlights the role connection plays in well-being.

Many people across Canada are experiencing loneliness, and even small actions like checking in or reaching out can make a difference. Connection is a key part of mental health, helping build stronger, more supportive communities.
