The scale of a search.

This map shows the combined ground and air tracks from the search for Stanislav.

What you’re seeing is the footprint of a massive, multi-agency operation — ground teams, aircraft, drones and crews working across steep, complex terrain and an enormous search area.

Areas were searched multiple times, from different directions and using different resources, as teams worked systematically to cover and continually reassess the search area.

We’re sharing this to give a little perspective on what a search of this scale looks like — and the many people working together behind the scenes. In the end, all that matters is that he made it out safe and is now back with his loved ones.

STANISLAV HAS BEEN FOUND !!

After several long days of searching, we are incredibly relieved to share that Stanislav has been found alive and is safe.

Stanislav walked himself out and was located on the Indian Arm FSR.

We know so many people across Squamish, the Sea to Sky, and beyond have been following his story, sharing our posts, sending messages, and hoping alongside his family.

Today, we get to share the news we’ve all been waiting for.

A heartfelt thank you to every SAR team, first responder, volunteers and everyone else who played a part in the search — and to everyone who shared, supported, and kept hope.

Were you in the Habrich / Sky Pilot area on Sunday, August 30?

We’d like to hear from you.

As the search for Stanislav continues, we are asking anyone who has been in or around Habrich Ridge, Co-Pilot, Sky Pilot, Al’s Habrich Trail or Habrich Climber’s Access Trail to think back to their time in the area.

Stanislav was last seen Sunday, August 30 at approximately 1:00 p.m. in the Shannon Basin.

Stanislav: 43, 5’11”, medium build, blonde ponytail, blue eyes, goatee and glasses. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, white socks and black running shoes, a gondola pass lanyard and carrying a small dark backpack with a red/violet long-sleeve shirt inside.

** In particular, we are hoping to hear from anyone who travelled the Sky Pilot Trail on Sunday. If you came down the trail above the Habrich Climber’s Access after approximately 1:00 p.m., whether or not you saw Stanislav, please contact us. Knowing who was in the area and whether they encountered him or not may help us narrow down his movements.**

Please do not enter the area to search. We are asking for information from those who have already been in the area as we continue our search.

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION REGARDING THE HABRICH SEARCH

We are aware that requests for members of the public to head to the Habrich Ridge area tomorrow to assist with the search have been widely shared.

We understand and deeply appreciate the desire to help bring Stas home. However, please do not independently enter the Habrich search area tomorrow.

This remains an active SAR operation and we are following up on all leads. We have multiple professional teams working in coordinated search areas by ground and by air. Uncoordinated members of the public entering the area can create additional safety risks, interfere with established search operations, and potentially divert resources away from the search.

As per our update yesterday, we have not put out a formal request for a public search party. If additional assistance is required, it will be coordinated through the appropriate SAR channels.

Search Update for Stanislav Volo

Squamish RCMP and Squamish Search and Rescue (SAR), in conjunction with partner SAR teams from North Shore, Chilliwack, Lions Bay, Pemberton, Whistler, Ridge Meadows, and Coquitlam, continue to actively search for a missing hiker in the Habrich Ridge area, supported by the Sea to Sky Gondola team.

This is the third day of searching, with deteriorating weather conditions today prompting teams to focus efforts on more technical, high-alpine terrain. Ground teams are being supported by air operations conducted by the Squamish RCMP, alongside BC RCMP Air Services (Air 5), as well as multiple SAR drone deployments.

Mr. Volo’s last known details and relevant route information:

Name: Stanislav Volo
Age: 43
Physical Description: 5’11” tall, medium build, blonde ponytail, blue eyes, goatee, wearing glasses
Last Seen: Sunday, August 30, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM in the Shannon Basin
Intended Route: Ridge route via the Habrich Climber’s Access and Al’s Habrich Trail
Clothing & Gear: Black T-shirt, black shorts, white socks, black running shoes, gondola pass lanyard, and a small dark backpack containing a red/violet long-sleeve shirt

“Search efforts received a helpful tip yesterday from a member of the public who reported seeing Mr. Volo on Sunday afternoon,” said Tyler Duncan, Squamish SAR Manager. “This has allowed the teams to create a more accurate timeline and identify the routes to focus on today.”

Squamish SAR and the RCMP urge anyone who was hiking on Habrich Ridge or surrounding trails on Sunday afternoon, August 30, and who may have seen Mr. Volo or have relevant information, to contact the Squamish RCMP Detachment immediately at 604-892-6100.

Squamish RCMP and Squamish SAR also want to take this opportunity to remind people visiting the Squamish backcountry to plan ahead and be well-prepared for their outdoor adventures.

MISSING HIKER

Squamish Search and Rescue and Squamish RCMP are searching for 43 year old Stanislav Volo last seen at the summit of the Sea to Sky Gondola yesterday, Sunday, August 30 at 11:30am.

Stanislav was planning to hike from the gondola summit to the Habrich Climber’s access trail, traverse the ridge and return to the gondola summit via Al’s Habrich trail.

He was last seen wearing:

Black t-shirt
Shorts
Small backpack.

Join Squamish Search and Rescue as a support volunteer

Squamish Search and Rescue (SSAR) is seeking a Volunteer Building Manager to help keep our rescue base organized, and mission-ready.

This flexible volunteer support role (~1–4 hours per week, minimum 80 hours/year) involves coordinating building maintenance, contractors, seasonal grounds care, and ensuring our facility is ready to support emergency response operations. More than building maintenance, this is an opportunity to be part of the SSAR team—working alongside members to keep our base rescue-ready. A strong team fit is just as important as practical skills.

We're looking for someone with:
- Practical maintenance or facilities experience (an asset, not required)
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to coordinate contractors and work independently
- Basic computer skills
- Valid BC driver's licence, clear driver's abstract, and clear criminal record check
