📚Happy International Archives Week 2026 📚
Archives are more than records of the past; they are spaces where communities can explore their histories and preserve their stories.
This year, the Spruce Grove and District Archives was proud to participate in the Archives Society of Alberta Conference in Canmore. Our Archivist presented a paper examining how community archives can address archival silences by identifying gaps in the historical record and working collaboratively to preserve underrepresented stories and experiences.
Community archives play an important role in ensuring that local history reflects the diversity of the people who have shaped it. By acknowledging archival silences, we can build collections that are more inclusive, representative, and meaningful for future generations.
As we celebrate International Archives Week, we invite you to visit the Spruce Grove and District Archives, explore our collections, and consider what stories from our community should be preserved for the future.
What stories, people, places, or events from Spruce Grove do you think should be remembered and preserved for future generations? Let us know in the comments!
