Just because they're legal to buy, doesn't mean they're legal to ride!

High powered electric dirt bikes, like the ones pictured here, are considered Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) in Alberta, and are not permitted on any public road, sidewalk or pathway in Spruce Grove.

What makes them illegal?

❌ They don't have functional pedals and are powered only by the motor
❌ The motor produces over 500 watts of power
❌ They are able to exceed 32 km/hr with motor assistance

Important to note - The rules for e-scooters, e-bikes, and OHVs are established by the Government of Alberta under the Alberta Traffic Safety Act and enforced in Spruce Grove by the City's Enforcement Services department and Parkland RCMP.

The City is committed to maintaining safe and accessible roads and public spaces for all residents and visitors. As use of e-devices increases, following safety and usage guidelines is essential in reducing accidents and keeping shared spaces safe and accessible for everyone.

‼️Parents and family members: know what you're buying, where it can be used safely and legally, and talk to your kids about safe riding. Please share this message with family, friends, or neighbours and help spread the word.

Just a few days to go until Agra Fair is back at Central Park, hosted by Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Society!

The parade kicks off Saturday morning (Sept. 12) at 11 a.m. and there will be temporary road closures starting at 10:30 a.m. as the parade moves east on Grove Drive and south on King Street towards Central Park and the Agrena.

While construction on King Street is still underway, the road will be temporarily opened to allow the parade to follow its approved route and will close again immediately following the parade.

If you’re planning to watch along King Street, please be aware that construction equipment will remain in place between Brookside Avenue and Wellington Crescent. Please use caution and follow all posted signage and directions while enjoying the parade.

The Central Park splash pad will also be closed to accommodate Agra Fair activities from Thursday (Sept. 10) through Monday (Sept. 14).

Check out all the fun things in store at this year’s Agra Fair at sprucegroveagsociety.com!

Big news for Deer Park residents! We’ve completed two construction projects in your neighbourhood that will make it easier to get around.

🚗 NOW OPEN: The traffic circle connecting Dalton Link and Deer Park Drive (the north exit remains closed for construction access). A reminder, the intersection just south of the traffic circle at Deer Park Drive and Deer Park Boulevard is a two-way stop. Drivers can travel north-south without stopping while those travelling east-west on Deer Park Boulevard must stop before continuing straight or turning onto Deer Park Drive.

🚶NOW OPEN: The pedestrian path on the west side of Jennifer Heil Way, connecting Grove Drive to Dalton Link and providing accessible walking access to the shopping centre.

Thanks for your patience as we continue investing in infrastructure that supports a growing, connected community!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the first day of school!

There’s just something special about that first day. New backpacks packed, lunches made, first-day photos on the front step, and a whole mix of excitement and nerves as kids head out the door.

As a parent, I know how quickly these years go by. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were walking our own daughter into school for those first days, and now she’s starting university tomorrow. So to the parents sending a little one off for the very first time tomorrow, enjoy the moment, even if there are a few tears along the way. These days really do go by far too quickly.

To all of our students, I hope tomorrow is the beginning of a fantastic year. Be kind, look out for one another, try something new and make some great memories along the way.

And to our teachers, educational assistants, administrators and all of the staff who make our schools such special places, thank you. Thank you for the time, patience and heart you give to our kids every single day. Wishing you an amazing year ahead as well.

Finally, a reminder to all of us behind the wheel. School zones, sidewalks and crossings will be busy again tomorrow morning. Please slow down, give yourself a little extra time and keep your eyes open for those little ones making their way to and from school.

Have a wonderful first day, everyone. Here’s to a safe, happy and memorable school year!
