UPDATE - Monday, June 22, 5 a.m.
Century Road has reopened in both directions for regular traffic flow. Thank you for your cooperation.
___

UPDATE - Sunday, June 21, 10:10 p.m.
❗️Road closure alert❗️
Century Road north of Grove Drive to Highway 16 is closed as the roadway is covered in water, resulting in safety concerns for motorists and on-site City crews. Both northbound lanes are closed and one southbound lane is closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes (Emergency Services will not be impacted). City crews will continue to monitor the roadway and help direct traffic until it is safe to reopen.

Crews will also continue monitoring and responding to rainfall-related calls throughout the overnight hours.

If you have drainage concerns, please call the City’s water or sewer emergency reporting line at 780-441-6266.
_____

UPDATE - Sunday, June 21, 4:30 p.m.
Crews are continuing to respond to rainfall-related calls throughout the community. This includes the area around No Frills/Vanderbuilt Common, where there is substantial water on the roadways. The water is draining slowly, but residents/motorists may want to use alternate routes.

Residents and motorists are also asked to:
🚗 Slow down when travelling on water-covered roadways, watch for on-site crews, and follow all posted signage.
🚫 Stay away from any flowing water and stormwater management facilities, as undercurrents may exist. Playing or splashing in the water is a significant safety risk.

If you have drainage concerns, please call the City’s water or sewer emergency reporting line at 780-441-6266.
_____

Sunday, June 21 - 2:20 p.m.
In response to the continued rainfall in Spruce Grove, the City’s Drainage, Roads, and Utility crews have been out since 2 a.m. on Sunday morning proactively responding to calls and addressing problem areas throughout the community.

The City’s drainage system is operating as it should; however, due to the volume of rainfall it is expected to see water on some roadways. These roadways have been designed to direct water to the nearest stormwater management facility (SWMF).

Residents who live near a SWMF may also see flooding around pathways, benches, and waste receptacles in the area around the SWMF. This is expected and shows the utility is working as it should.

If you have drainage concerns, please call the City’s water or sewer emergency reporting line at 780-441-6266.

Concerns can also be reported online at sprucegrove.org/SeeClickFix.

Also, please note that in some areas of Spruce Grove where construction is underway, residents may see silt/sediment filter socks across roadways. These devices are in place to keep mud and other construction-related debris out of the City’s drainage system and should not be removed.

A local drug trafficking operation uncovered by Parkland RCMP led to a broader series of investigations stretching from Spruce Grove to Ontario, resulting in the seizure of more than $40 million in drugs, weapons, and cash.

Parkland RCMP Inspector Kevin McGillivray provided his quarterly update to Council at last night's (June 8 ) regular meeting and explained how the initial Spruce Grove investigation led to further drug trafficking investigations in Edmonton, Winnipeg and Toronto and removed a large quantity of drugs and weapons from the street. Other highlights from Insp. McGillivray's update include:

▶️ The addition of two new RCMP members, approved by City Council as part of the 2026 Budget and Fiscal Plan, which will bring the detachment's Spruce Grove contingent to 35 officers and 96 overall detachment positions.
▶️ Nine Parkland RCMP members will travel to Vancouver to assist the Vancouver Police Department with policing for the FIFA World Cup.
▶️ Working with the Spruce Grove Policing Committee on crime reduction with a focus on community safety and increasing police visibility.
▶️ Coordinating with loss prevention staff at local businesses to combat organized retail theft.
▶️ Continued growth of the Parkland RCMP social media presence, with over 4900 followers on Facebook and nearly one million monthly post views.

🚧 Heads up for students and parents at Copperhaven School!

Construction starts Monday (May 25) on a new, dedicated student drop-off loop south of the school and east of the Copperhaven bus transfer station. Once complete in mid-July, the new drop-off area will improve traffic safety and help ease congestion on Grove Drive during the busy morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up times. The work is not expected to have an impact on the existing drop-off area or school access for the remainder of the current school year.

This project was identified in the 2026 Spring Budget Adjustment and will be funded through developer contributions. Read more at https://loom.ly/KLO23Jk.

If you haven’t filled out the survey and provided feedback on the draft strategic plan, please do so! It closes at midnight tonight. The strategic plan provides the framework and priorities of council for the next 4 years.

Not another survey… but this one is worth it because it let’s us grow stronger, together!

This is your last chance to have your say before Council’s draft 2026-2029 Strategic Plan is finalized. This plan guides City Administration in setting priorities, allocating resources, and making decisions that align the community’s needs. Rather than beginning in a boardroom, this plan was shaped by real conversations candidates had with residents, business owners, and community members during the 2025 municipal election. That community voice was brought by members of Council to a series of strategic planning sessions and became the draft we have today.

The survey closes at midnight tonight, May 8: sprucegrove.org/StratPlanSurvey.

Your feedback will be included in a What We Heard Report which will validate and refine the plan before it goes to Council for approval early this summer.
