Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes (Emergency Services will not be impacted). City crews will continue to monitor the roadway and help direct traffic until it is safe to reopen.

Crews will also continue monitoring and responding to rainfall-related calls throughout the overnight hours.

If you have drainage concerns, please call the City’s water or sewer emergency reporting line at 780-441-6266.

UPDATE - Sunday, June 21, 4:30 p.m.
Crews are continuing to respond to rainfall-related calls throughout the community. This includes the area around No Frills/Vanderbuilt Common, where there is substantial water on the roadways. The water is draining slowly, but residents/motorists may want to use alternate routes.

Residents and motorists are also asked to:
🚗 Slow down when travelling on water-covered roadways, watch for on-site crews, and follow all posted signage.
🚫 Stay away from any flowing water and stormwater management facilities, as undercurrents may exist. Playing or splashing in the water is a significant safety risk.

If you have drainage concerns, please call the City’s water or sewer emergency reporting line at 780-441-6266.
_____

Sunday, June 21 - 2:20 p.m.
In response to the continued rainfall in Spruce Grove, the City’s Drainage, Roads, and Utility crews have been out since 2 a.m. on Sunday morning proactively responding to calls and addressing problem areas throughout the community.

The City’s drainage system is operating as it should; however, due to the volume of rainfall it is expected to see water on some roadways. These roadways have been designed to direct water to the nearest stormwater management facility (SWMF).

Residents who live near a SWMF may also see flooding around pathways, benches, and waste receptacles in the area around the SWMF. This is expected and shows the utility is working as it should.

If you have drainage concerns, please call the City’s water or sewer emergency reporting line at 780-441-6266.

Concerns can also be reported online at sprucegrove.org/SeeClickFix.

Also, please note that in some areas of Spruce Grove where construction is underway, residents may see silt/sediment filter socks across roadways. These devices are in place to keep mud and other construction-related debris out of the City’s drainage system and should not be removed.

If you’re looking for a great way to spend the afternoon (and stay dry), there’s still plenty of time to come out to the Tri Leisure Centre and join the celebration! We’re here until 4:00 p.m. with amazing Indigenous vendors, live entertainment, delicious food, family activities, and a wonderful sense of community.

This morning was especially meaningful for me. I was deeply honoured to receive a beautiful ribbon shirt and beaded lanyard from Kookum Ann Marie Campiou. Knowing that you thoughtfully chose the colours and the meaning behind each element makes it an incredibly special gift that I will treasure for years to come. Thank you for such a generous and heartfelt gesture.

I was also grateful to spend time with Elder Howard and District Captain Mike Hanly - Lac Ste Anne Métis District 8, whose presence and friendship added so much to the day.

Come on down, say hello, support local Indigenous artisans, enjoy some great entertainment, and celebrate everything that makes this community so special. We’d love to see you here.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and it’s a wonderful chance to celebrate the people, cultures, traditions, and stories that have been part of this land since time immemorial.

One of the things I appreciate most about our community is the opportunity to come together, learn from one another, and celebrate the incredible talent, creativity, and generosity that surrounds us.

If you’re looking for something to do today, I encourage you to stop by the Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Centre and Gallery’s 4th Anniversary Celebration at the Tri Leisure Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. With Indigenous vendors, live music, youth dancers, family activities, a free BBQ, and so much more, it’s a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family, support local artisans, and enjoy a day of community.

Congratulations to everyone at Skydancer on four incredible years of creating connections and sharing culture with our region. Thank you to the volunteers, performers, sponsors, and organizers who make events like this possible.

I hope to see many of you there. 🧡

What an incredible evening celebrating the Spruce Grove Composite High School Class of 2026 at the Heritage Pavilion!

There is something truly special about a graduation celebration. It is a moment to reflect on the journey, recognize the challenges that have been overcome, and look ahead with excitement and endless possibility.

Last night, I had the privilege of joining families, friends, and our community to celebrate a remarkable group of young people who have worked hard, supported one another, and reached an important milestone in their lives. Their talent, resilience, and optimism give me tremendous confidence in the future.

A sincere thank you to the volunteers, parents, sponsors, and organizers who poured so much time and energy into creating such a memorable evening. Your generosity and dedication ensured these graduates were celebrated in a way that reflects just how proud we all are of them.

To the Class of 2026, never underestimate the impact you can have. Be curious, be courageous, work hard, and lead with kindness. The path ahead will bring opportunities you cannot yet imagine, and this community will always be cheering you on.

Congratulations on all that you have accomplished and all that is still to come. The future is bright, and it belongs to you.

Father’s Day is a chance to slow down and appreciate the men who quietly shape our lives through their love, their example, and the countless little things they do every single day.

As I have gotten older, I have realized that some of life’s most important lessons are never spoken. They are learned by watching a father who keeps his word, works hard, puts family first, lends a hand without being asked, and always makes time for the people who matter most.

I have been incredibly fortunate to have that kind of dad.

Dad, thank you for your steady guidance, your kindness, your generosity, and the way you have always led by example. Your commitment to our family and to this community has inspired so many people, myself included. I am proud to be your son and grateful for every conversation, every laugh, and every piece of wisdom you have shared along the way.

Being Sophia’s dad has given me an even deeper appreciation for fatherhood. Watching her grow into such an amazing young woman has been one of the greatest joys of my life and a constant reminder that the time we spend together is the greatest gift we can give.

Today I also want to celebrate all the dads, grandfathers, and father figures throughout our community. Thank you for the quiet sacrifices, the encouragement, the strength, and the unconditional love that help shape the next generation. Your influence reaches farther than you will ever know.

And for those who are celebrating with cherished memories instead of a hug or a phone call, I hope today brings comfort and reminds you that love never leaves us.

Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads in Spruce Grove. Thank you for everything you do and for making our community a better place through the example you set every day.

This evening it was an honour to attend the Edmonton Military Family Resource Centre / CRFM d'Edmonton Donor and Supporter Appreciation Night at Edmonton Garrison.

Spending time learning more about the work they do was both inspiring and humbling. For more than 35 years, the Edmonton Military Family Resource Centre has been supporting Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and their families through the unique challenges that come with military life - whether that’s deployments, relocations, mental health supports, parenting resources, youth programming, or helping families build resilience through times of change. Their work reminds us that when someone serves our country, their family serves alongside them.

It was wonderful to see such strong regional support this evening and to spend time with colleagues including Mayor Boersma from Morinville, Mayor Alanna Hnatiw from Sturgeon County, Councillor Kristine Olson from Parkland County, Mayor Tara Elwood from Alberta Beach, Mayor David McRae from Redwater, and Karen Principe-Councillor for tastawiyiniwak.

To all of the staff, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and supporters who make this important work possible, thank you! Your compassion and commitment ensure that military families have the support they need when they need it most.

As the grandson of veterans, evenings like this serve as a powerful reminder that supporting those who serve our country means supporting the families who stand behind them every step of the way. It was a privilege to be part of this special evening.
