Join Us for Silver Willow Picking.

Spend the morning on the land learning about the traditional uses, teachings, and cultural significance of silver willow.

As part of the Elder-Led Nlaka'pamux Arts & Cultural Learning Program, participants will learn from Elders and Knowledge Keepers about respectful harvesting practices, sustainable gathering methods, and the important relationship between traditional plants, culture, and wellness.

September 16, 2026
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Meet at Cook's Ferry Indian Band Office, Spences Bridge
(Participants will travel together to the harvesting location or can coordinate with organizers to meet at the picking site.)

Participants Will Learn About:
• Silver willow and its cultural significance
• Traditional harvesting practices
• Connections between plants, culture, and wellness

The silver willow gathered during this session will be used in an upcoming workshop where participants will create their own Silver Willow Necklace.

Please Bring:
• Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing
• Comfortable walking shoes or boots
• Water bottle and snacks

Fisher Notice Update – Licence XFSC 321 2026 Amendment #5

Attention Cook's Ferry Members,

A new Food, Social and Ceremonial (FSC) fishing licence has been issued for Cook's Ferry Indian Band members.

Fishing is open from September 3 to September 15, 2026

You may retain:
Chinook Salmon

Permitted gear:

• Gillnet (minimum 8-inch mesh)
• Rod and Reel
• Dip Net

Fishing areas:
Fraser River
• Sawmill Creek to Williams Creek
• Petch Creek to Texas Creek

Thompson River
• Fraser/Thompson confluence to the Bonaparte River

❌ Do not retain:
• Coho Salmon
• Steelhead
• Sturgeon

Fish harvested under this licence are for Food, Social and Ceremonial purposes only and may not be sold.

Designated fishers must carry their designation card while fishing and transporting fish.

Members may fish with one gillnet each. Gillnets must be marked with the fisher's name and Band card number.

The Elder-Led Nlaka'pamux Arts & Cultural Learning Program is back on!

Join Elders and Knowledge Keepers for our first session, Cedar Harvest & Preparation. Take part in cultural learning focused on cedar, traditional harvesting teachings, and the important role cedar continues to play in Nlaka'pamux culture.

September 9, 2026
3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Shawniken Elder’s Hall (Blue Hall)

Participants Will Learn:
• The cultural importance of cedar within Nlaka'pamux culture
• Traditional harvesting protocols and cultural responsibilities
• Respectful relationships with the land
• Sustainable harvesting and stewardship practices
• Traditional uses of cedar
• Cedar preparation techniques for future basketry projects

Participants are encouraged to bring a cedar item for a show-and-tell sharing circle.

This could include:
• A cedar basket
• A cedar weaving project
• A cedar artwork or carving
• A family heirloom

Any cedar item with cultural, personal, or family significance.

Participants will have an opportunity to share their story, teachings, memories, or family connections behind their item.

Registration is required and limited spaces are available.

Election Notice
NOMINATION MEETING

Notice is hereby given that the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band has called an Election in accordance with The Custom Election Rules of the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band (1994) for the purpose of electing:
• one (1) Chief;
• one (1) on reserve Councillor; and
• two (2) on or off reserve Councillors

Meeting to be held:
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2026
Chief Whistemnitsa Building Gymnasium
3691 Deer Lane, Spences Bridge, BC
Between 6:00 - 8:00 PM

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES:
1. Any eligible Elector (Member 18 years and older as of October 24, 2026) shall be eligible to be nominated and to run for the position of Chief or Councillor, except an Elector who in the last 5 years of the Election has been:
a. Convicted of an indictable offense;
b. Convicted of any sexual or assault offense; or
c. Found to have committed a corrupt election practice in connection with a Band Election.

2. No Elector can be a candidate for election as Chief or Councillor unless their nomination is moved and seconded by Electors and such persons including the candidate are present at the Nomination Meeting. Each candidate must also agree to complete and submit a criminal records check.

3. In the event of more than the required number of persons being nominated for Chief and Councillors, the Electoral Officer shall declare that a poll will be held and will name the place and time where such poll shall be taken (the Election Date).

4. If not more than two hours after the commencement of the nomination meeting, the number of persons to serve as Chief and Councillor does not exceed the requisite number, the Chief Electoral Officer shall declare the person or persons so nominated to be duly elected.

ELECTION INFORMATION:
1. The Election will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band’s Chief Whistemnitsa Building Gymnasium located at 3691 Deer Lane, Spences Bridge, BC from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM (PDT – Local Spences Bridge Time).

2. The Elector may vote in-person or by online vote. Voting information will be sent to the address and email on file after the Nomination Meeting. Online Ballot will be cast on the same day and time as the Election.

3. Any Elector may permit the Electoral Officer to release their name to the candidate by completing the Candidate Contact Release Authorization form.

4. Eligible Electors are encouraged to ensure their name is on the Voter’s List and provide up-to-date contact information to the Electoral Officer.

Wildfire Evacuation Alert Rescinded

We are pleased to advise members that, pursuant to Band Council Resolution (BCR) Number 2026_08_25_01, the Wildfire Evacuation Alert has been rescinded, effective immediately.

Chief and Council have reviewed the current conditions and determined that the evacuation alert is no longer required. We thank all members for their patience, cooperation and understanding during this time.

Food Hamper Pick-Up Reminder

Thank you to everyone who registered for a food hamper.

Pick-Up Date: August 26
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you on pick-up day. To help ensure a smooth distribution, please plan to pick up your hamper between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., as this is the only time available for pick-up.

For Antko residents, hampers will be delivered or available for pickup at the Antko office.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to connecting with you.

A few friendly reminders:
• Food hampers are available for one household per registration
• Each person is asked to register themselves directly with Jolene
• To help us keep registrations organized, we are unable to accept registrations through Facebook
• If you register for a hamper, please make arrangements to pick it up on the scheduled day
• For our Antko community members, hampers will be delivered or available for pickup at the Antko office
