Today we are running up our portable fire pumps. This pump is called a mini striker. We have 3 of this type of pump plus two, Mark 3 type pumps in service that are used for wildfire fighting.

Did you know that our fire apparatus carry over 4000 feet of forestry fire hose between five trucks during wildfire season. Plus we have thousands of feet more in our support trailer.

Category 1 (campfires) will be permitted in East Sooke Friday May 15th at noon. Maximum size 0.5m x 0.5m. Fires must be 3m away from driftwood, dry vegetation or combustible materials.

Please ensure your Campfire is fully out and cool to the touch when done. Always have water and hand tools available.

Category 2 (Open Burning) is not permitted!

After a fire our members quickly replenish E1's equipment so it's available for our next call. This morning we continue with farther cleaning and inspection of ladders, scba's, hand tools and hose lines.

May 5th 2026 fire danger rating is HIGH.

A "High" fire danger rating indicates that forest fuels are very dry, creating a serious fire risk where new ignitions can occur easily and spread vigorously.

Total fire ban coming noon Thursday for the south coast! This ban will include, Campfires (Category 1) General open burning (Category 2) Industrial burning (Category 3).

Tender 2 is a Freightliner FL 70 built in 1996. This tenders main role in our department is deliver water to the fire scene in non-hydranted areas or beyond a two engine hose lay from a hydrant. Tank capacity is 1500 imp. Gallons.

Pike pole

20lb ABC Extinguisher
