Independent thinking and grounded leadership matter in local government. I’m not a career politician - I’m someone who doesn’t fit the profile of who tends to run - but I believe that is what sets me apart from the others.

I am running for Sooke Council because I live in Sooke and care about my neighbours and friends. I care about people in all their identities and experiences. I care deeply about young people, about human rights, and about protecting the environment we all depend on.

As a resident of Sooke, I’m concerned about rising costs, transportation challenges, limited job creation and recreation options, and the gaps in our access to healthcare. These issues affect families every day, and I believe our community deserves better.

Sooke deserves representatives who bring real experience, who listen deeply, and who show up with integrity. When decision‑makers like me are grounded in lived experience and committed to hearing residents’ voices, we get stronger solutions, better collaboration, and a council that actually reflects the people it serves.

Your voice matters — show up and vote Katherine Strongwind for Sooke Council on October 17. Together we can strengthen Sooke with practical solutions, steady leadership, and a commitment to work together.

Endorsement! It wasn't that long ago that I, Shaun Burns, and 5 others ran in the Sooke by-election. I'm proud to say many of us have grown to be friends and that Shaun is supporting me in my bid for Council this year 🙌 Here's what he had to say:

"As someone who’s been through a campaign myself, I’ve seen firsthand what Katherine brings to the table. She listens with care, speaks with intention, treats people with respect, and has a practical approach to problem-solving. It’s a tougher road, but having independent and non-partisan people who bring their own thinking and diverse perspectives to council matters.

I have also seen Katherine actively engaging in outreach and multi-lateral thinking. Sooke benefits when more voices are willing to step forward, and I support Katherine in her bid for Council."

On October 17, vote for me and together, we can make a stronger Sooke 💪

I can think of nothing better than encouraging young adventurers to explore, learn and build confidence outdoors, in a sustainable economic development initiative! It's a win-win-win for youth and land-based learning, for the environment, and for entrepreneurs based right here in the South Island. Great news for Sooke families — more child care spaces are on the way. The Sooke School District is adding 36 new spots: 24 at Sooke Elementary and 12 at Ruth King Elementary. It’s a strong step forward.

More child care means better early learning, real support for working parents and caregivers in school, and good local jobs. If we want a thriving Sooke economy, child care has to be part of the plan 👣👶🍼

As your council rep, I pledge to continue advocating for families and creating sustainable jobs right here in Sooke. Vote for me in October, and together, let's build a stronger Sooke 💪

Proud to share that I’ve signed the Elect Respect pledge for this municipal election. I did this because I care deeply about how we show up for one another in Sooke. We are neighbours, friends, and family, and the way we treat each other shapes the place we call home.

I want this campaign season to feel like the community we love. Conversations that are kind. Differences handled with care. A commitment to listening and lifting each other up. Signing this pledge is one small way I’m honouring the relationships that make Sooke strong.

Join me in a campaign rooted in kindness and the way good neighbours care for each other.

***********

The Pledge:

As an ally to candidates and elected officials, and an advocate for democracy, I pledge to:

Treat elected officials and each other with respect in all spaces—public, private, and online.

Reject harassment, abuse, and personal attacks, and speak out when I witness them.

Focus debate and political discussions on ideas and policies, not personal attacks.

Help build a supportive culture where people of all backgrounds feel safe to run for and hold office, and engage in public life.

Call on relevant authorities for the protection of elected officials who face abuse or threats.

Model integrity and respect in public life, holding myself to the highest standards of conduct, and vote for leaders who model integrity and respect in public life, holding them to the highest standard of conduct.

"As a business owner and environmentalist living in Sooke, I’ve had the chance to work with Katherine through local community projects. She sees the value of sustainable community planning and understands how good planning supports both the community and the environment. I’ve watched her listen, help, and treat our neighbours with respect. I’m pleased to endorse Katherine because she is dedicated to the long‑term health of our community and the land we depend on."

Sooke’s natural beauty is a gift — and protecting it is something we do together.🌎

Vote for me for Sooke Council in October, and together, let’s keep building a community future generations will be proud of 💪✨️

Jon's story goes to show that it's never too late to set goals and smash them!

I set goals to buy a home, walk 5k a day, finish a Master's degree, root myself in and give back to community, and run for Council - and its happening! Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and support 🙏 I could not do this without community ❤️💛

And he's right - Sooke region IS really, really special 💫✨️

Yesterday I was having coffee with a friend at Bears Bakery & Cafe and we were talking about the municipal budget. As we talked, I felt that familiar awareness that I live in two connected worlds. One world is rooted in community, where I sit with families, young people, Elders, entrepreneurs and neighbours who are navigating the realities of Sooke. The other world is the "business" side, where budgets, planning and long‑term strategy shape the choices that affect all of us.

These worlds are not separate. They inform each other. They rely on each other. They need each other.

My friend described me as a unifier, as a bridge between these worlds. I have spent years building relationships across cultures, sectors and communities, and I know how powerful it is when people feel heard and respected. I also know that fiscal responsibility is not just about numbers. It is about making choices that make sense for Sooke and reflect our values and our future.

Sitting in Bears Bakery, listening to my friend talk about the budget, I felt the calling to connect these worlds with honesty, clarity and care. To bring all community voices into decision‑making. To make sure our spending reflects our priorities. To help Sooke grow in a way that feels balanced, thoughtful and rooted in who we are.

In October, vote for me and for a unified community. As your Council, I am committed to being the bridge that keeps these two worlds working together. I will focus on strong relationships, clear communication, and responsible budgeting that supports real solutions for Sooke.

What a weekend at the Sooke Fall Fair! It was full of laughter, creativity, and connection.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who donated to my campaign and stopped by the booth to chat. The strong wind 😏 kept us on our toes on Saturday, but it could not take away from the strength and spirit of this community 💪

I am grateful for the genuine conversations about what matters most to people in Sooke. Hearing from voters about much-needed commercial space, to climate action, to more recreation, to the Gathering Place and youth programs, these moments remind me why I love this place and why community engagement matters.

We may not always agree, but I am committed to listening and doing everything I can to make life better for Sooke residents 🙌
