At approximately 7:30am March 27, 2025 Smoky Lake Fire Rescue was dispatched to an outdoor fire on White Earth Street in Smoky Lake. Upon arrival Fire Crews found 2 bystanders pulling a burning flower pot away from the front entrence of the Drop-In Centre and using snow to extinguish the fire. Luckily the metal exterior of the structure protected the building from any damage. The probable cause of the fire is determined to be the flower pot being used as an ash tray. A reminder to everyone to extinguish and dispose of your smoking materials in proper receptacles. The majority of flower pots contain peat moss which is a combustible material.
