Becoming a mother changed me in ways I never expected.

It softened me, strengthened me, humbled me, and completely reshaped the way I saw women, families, and community. Motherhood showed me how vulnerable birth and postpartum can feel, but also how powerful and transformative it is when a mother feels truly supported.

That journey is what inspired me to become a doula.

I became a doula because mothers deserve to be cared for too. They deserve someone in their corner reminding them to rest, to eat, to heal, to trust themselves, and to know they are already enough.

Over the years, I’ve had the honour of supporting women through pregnancy, labour, birth, loss, postpartum, anxiety, healing, and rediscovering themselves.
And what I’ve learned is this…

When you support a mother, you strengthen an entire family.
When a mother feels seen, heard, and safe, she becomes the best version of herself.

This Mother’s Day, I’m reflecting on how motherhood gave me purpose far beyond myself. It led me to build villages, advocate for women, and help mothers become the best versions of themselves through support, compassion, and community.

So today, I celebrate every version of motherhood and every mother learning to grow through it. Including the version of me that was born the day I became “Mom.” 🤍

✨ Reintroduction + Big News ✨

Hi, I’m Jae 🤍
Founder of The Baby Days & Co. birth & postpartum doula, childbirth educator, CAF veteran, mama of 4, and a woman who truly believes in the power of villages.

For the past several years, I’ve been supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum while advocating for better maternal care, trauma-informed support, and community-centered healing.

And now… we’re onto our next chapter 🌿

My family and I are relocating to beautiful British Columbia where the mountains meet the ocean, and life invites you to slow down just a little more.

I’m incredibly honoured (and still pinching myself) to be stepping into the role of President of continuing the work of expanding access, advocacy, and connection for doulas and families across the province.

But at the heart of it all…I’m here to continue building villages.

Spaces where:
✨ moms feel seen
✨ parents feel supported
✨ children are nurtured
✨ and no one has to do this alone

I’m so excited to connect with new families, collaborate with local providers, and root myself in a community that values nature, presence, and care 🌊🌲

If you’re on the West Coast, I’d love to meet you.
Let’s build something beautiful together.

In the forest, a nurse log is a fallen tree that no longer stands, no longer what it once was.

But in its transformation, it becomes something else entirely.

As it slowly decays, it creates life.

It holds moisture.
It provides nutrients.
It protects fragile seedlings from harsh conditions and competition below.

And from it… new life grows. 🌱

Motherhood, and birth especially, can feel like this.

A transformation.
A shedding.
A version of you that no longer exists in the same way it once did.

Not because you are lost…
but because you are becoming.

In birth, a mother gives of her body, her energy, her identity and in doing so, she creates the environment where new life can thrive.

She becomes the nourishment.
The safety.
The regulator.
The space where her baby learns to exist.

But just like the nurse log…

Even the one who gives life still needs support.

Because no ecosystem survives on one source alone.

Mothers were never meant to do this in isolation.
We need villages.
We need care.
We need to be held, too.

Because when a mother is supported…
everything growing around her thrives. 🤍

Trauma doesn’t stay in the past, it can show up in labour.

For survivors, birth can feel:

• triggering
• overwhelming
• unsafe
• or emotionally intense

Not because they’re unprepared, but because the body remembers.

Labour involves vulnerability, touch, and loss of control.
For someone with past trauma, that can bring:

• sudden anxiety or panic
• difficulty with exams or touch
• a need for control or feeling completely disconnected

Sometimes it’s visible.
Sometimes it’s silent.

This is why trauma-informed care matters.

🤍 Ask for consent, every time
🤍 Explain before touching
🤍 Create choice and control
🤍 Respect boundaries, always

To every survivor:
You are not broken. Your body is protecting you.

To every supporter for the birthing mother:
You have an important role to help her feel at ease and comfort from Labour all the way through the 4th trimester 🙏🏾

And when we create safety in birth we don’t just support labour… we help rewrite the experience.

It’s World Doula Week! 🤍

The biggest question I often get is:
“What does a doula do?”

But really… the better question is:
“What does a doula not do?”

🤍 We don’t overstep
🤍 We don’t judge
🤍 We don’t make decisions for you
🤍 We don’t care if your house isn’t clean
🤍 We don’t expect you to have it all together
🤍 We don’t dismiss your fears or your voice
🤍 We don’t replace your partner, we support them too
🤍 We don’t rush your experience

What do we do?

✨ We hold space
✨ We listen, really listen
✨ We support you through every wave, every question, every emotion
✨ We provide evidence-based information so you can make informed choices
✨ We remind you of your strength when you forget
✨ We help build your village

Because birth, postpartum, and parenthood were never meant to be done alone.

Doulas don’t take over…we walk beside you.

And every family deserves that kind of support. 🤍

I received the most loveliest gift from a beautiful friend & incredible teacher today!

Orange, turquoise & brown are my favourite colours!

Orange & brown are the typical colours for turtles.

Turtles are part of the Polynesian and Asian culture where they are known for their long lives, shells are a symbol of protection & strength.

Turquoise because of water which has healing properties of calm, warm and feeling of weightlessness.

These are also the colours for my logo too!

Thank you 🥰🥹🙏🏾

We prepare women for birth.
But who prepares their partners?

Too many dads walk into labour feeling unsure.
Too many mothers carry the emotional weight alone.

Birth works best when it’s a team effort.

Doulas don’t replace partners, we empower them.

Partners anchor.
Mothers lead.
Families begin stronger.

Stronger support means better outcomes.
For mom. For baby. For everyone in the room.

This is how we change birth culture.
Together.

As a mom of four, a birth & postpartum doula, and a military veteran, I know firsthand what happens when families don’t have access to support.
We moved often, lived remotely, and had no village, no doulas, no midwives, no family nearby. That lack of care contributed to postpartum anxiety and depression that could have been prevented.

Doulas don’t just support birth we support families through the most vulnerable moments of parenthood. Evidence shows doula care improves birth outcomes, reduces C-section rates, and strengthens maternal mental health. Yet in Canada, most families still pay out of pocket because doula care isn’t covered by insurance.

Access to care shouldn’t depend on your postal code or your bank account.
It’s time for provincial governments and private insurers to include doula services in health coverage.

This isn’t a luxury. It’s healthcare.
Join me in calling for change and help make doula care accessible to every Canadian family. 🤍

I’m honestly speechless… and that doesn’t happen often.
Winning the Canadian Choice Award for Doula Services is such an incredible honour.

Thank you to every family who trusted me in one of the most vulnerable, powerful seasons of their lives. Thank you for inviting me into your birth rooms, postpartum days, tears, laughter, exhaustion, and joy. This award belongs to our village.

Birth work is heart work. It’s advocacy, safety, presence, and love — and I’m so grateful I get to do this every single day. 🤍

From the bottom of my heart — thank you for choosing me.
