A week of culture, community, learning and connection is coming to the MD of Opportunity.

September 16–22, Cultural Days brings communities together through a variety of activities and experiences celebrating the people, traditions and stories that make this region so special.

From cultural teachings and traditional activities to food, gatherings and opportunities to learn something new, there are so many ways to take part.

Whether you live here or you’re exploring the Lakes of the North, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the culture of the region and the communities who call it home.

If you love a good treasure hunt, this weekend is for you! The 2nd Annual Slave Lake Town Sale is happening now through Sunday, September 13.

🐎 THIS WEEKEND — INDIAN RELAY RACES IN HIGH PRAIRIE!

The wait is almost over!

Sucker Creek First Nation hosts the Indian Relay Races September 12 & 13 at the High Prairie Elks Rodeo Grounds, bringing two days of speed, skill, culture and community to the Lakes of the North.

Gates open at 10 AM, with Grand Entry at 1 PM, followed by Broncs & Bulls at 1:30 PM and the Indian Relay Races.

There’s plenty happening beyond the track too, including a Tipi Village, cultural presentations, drummers and dancers, cultural arts and crafts, food and craft vendors, and a Kids Tent.

And the weekend starts early:

🎶 Friday, September 11
The Story of Merle Haggard – An Evening of Stories and Songs featuring Juno-nominated Jess Lee at the High Prairie Elks Rodeo Hall.

🎸 Saturday, September 12
Paradise Alley takes the stage with the music of Boston, Journey, Styx, Streetheart and more classic rock favourites.
