Hey, Norfolk County! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Before you roll your new green cart away, take a look inside. Every green cart comes with a kitchen container tucked inside. Use it to collect food scraps and other accepted organics in your home, then transfer them to your green cart for curbside pickup.

Organics collection begins the week of September 28 as part of Norfolk County's new waste collection program. Organics will be collected weekly, along with your recycling, while garbage will be collected every other week. Not sure when to set out your grey garbage cart?

Use the collection schedule tool at norfolkcounty.ca/CollectionDay to find your collection day and determine whether you're in the Week 1 or Week 2 garbage collection zone, or learn about the full program at norfolkcounty.ca/WasteChanges

Having trouble with the lock on your new organics cart?
We've heard there are questions about how the lock works. Here's what you need to know:

The lock may look like it has a removable key, but it is designed to stay in place. Simply turn it to lock or unlock the cart.

The lock is gravity-activated and is designed to release when the cart is tipped by the collection truck, allowing the lid to open and the contents to be emptied.

Tip the cart upside down. The lid should release when the cart reaches the appropriate position.
Lock sticking? Try leaving the cart in the sun with the lid closed. Afterwards, open and firmly close the lid several times. This can help the lid settle into position and resolve minor sticking issues.

The following pesticides, registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada), may be used:

VisionMAX Silviculture Herbicide (P*P Registration No. 27736), containing the active ingredient glyphosate, present as potassium salt; and

We're hearing that some residents are bringing their recycling bins to transfer stations after receiving their new waste carts.

Norfolk County will continue to use the two-sort recycling system. Residents should continue setting out their recycling bins for collection just as they do today.

The new waste collection program begins the week of September 28 and introduces organics collection as an additional way to divert food scraps and other organic materials from landfill. Your new garbage and organics carts work alongside the existing recycling program, not in place of it.

โœ… Keep your recycling bins
โœ… Continue using the two-sort recycling system
โœ… Use your new green cart for organics and grey cart for garbage beginning the week of September 28
