Hey, Norfolk County 👋 More improvements are on the way. Reconstruction of the Argyle Street Parking Lot in Simcoe is scheduled to begin the week of June 1.

Work will include asphalt removal, regrading, new asphalt installation, and updated line painting, all aimed at creating a refreshed and improved parking area. The project is expected to take approximately four weeks.

Construction will be completed in phases, with only half of the parking lot closed at a time. The remaining portion will stay open for public parking.

Please plan ahead and use alternate parking during this time. Nearby municipal parking lots, including 86 Argyle Street, are available and may help reduce congestion in the area.

𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗸 𝗡𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗮: 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗝.𝗕. 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸, 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗮 𝟭𝟵𝟮𝟬𝘀

J.B. Jackson Limited was Norfolk's largest producer of ice cream in the early 1900s.

Located on Union Street, the business originally supplied coal and wood until its plant expanded in 1920 to include cold storage facilities for eggs and dairy products. They began producing ice cream in 1922.

The business was later sold to Beatrice and eventually sold to Unilever, which continues to operate at the same location on Union Street.

𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: The Corporation of Norfolk County intends to control noxious weeds along all rural roadside guide rails and guide cables within its boundaries.

The following pesticides registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada) will be used: Navius FLEX Herbicide (Registration Number: 30922), containing the active ingredients: Metsulfuron-methyl and Aminocyclopyrachlor.

The Pesticide use will be completed under the exception to the cosmetic pesticide ban located in subsection 7.1(2)(4) of the Pesticides Act for the promotion of public health and safety.

Pesticide use is scheduled to begin no sooner than May 25, 2026, and will be completed by June 26, 2026. The commencement date is approximate and weather permitting.

𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: Norfolk County is undertaking a Development Charge Background Study to guide how growth-related infrastructure is funded.

As part of this work, the County is inviting members of the development community and the public to attend an information session.

𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
This session will provide an overview of development charges, including recent changes to the Development Charges Act and current best practices. County staff will be available to answer questions.

The study is in its early stages. This session will focus on housekeeping updates to the current Development Charge By-law 2019-100. Additional engagement opportunities will be shared as the study progresses, including future discussions on potential changes to fees and development charge grant programs.
