Join our Wetland Bryophyte Identification Course, a two-day, hands-on training built for natural resource professionals who want to confidently identify Alberta’s mosses and liverworts in wetland environments.

This course is all about practical field skills, helping you recognize key features such as leaf morphology, understand microhabitats, and accurately distinguish among similar species.

What to expect:
• Classroom session introducing bryophytes and common wetland taxa
• Field training in marsh and fen environments
• Identification techniques and sampling methods
• Practical assessment to test your field skills

Dates: June 1 and 2, 2026
Locations: Sherwood Park (classroom), Wagner Natural Area and Clyde fen (Field)

Wetland Bryophyte Identification Course

Upland Bryophyte Identification Course
May 27 and 28, 8:30 am to 5 pm
Sherwood Park, Wagner Natural Area, and Emily Murphy or Hawrelak Park (TBD)

Led by Brittney Miller, P.Biol, M.Sc. (Bryology), these two-day courses focus on practical identification of mosses and liverworts, helping you recognize key features, understand microhabitats, and confidently distinguish between similar species where it matters most.

Participants receive a hand lens and a pocket field guide to support continued learning beyond the course.
