🌳June is just around the corner, and so is our guided hike on Sunday, June 14th, 2026 @ 10:00 am.

Join our guide, Carl, and some of your favourite library staff as we explore our section of the Dufferin Hi-Land Bruce Trail. Carl says there's a good chance we may be able to see the rare Lady Slippers in bloom!

Here are some hike details for those who would like a little more information about our route πŸ₯Ύ

Main hike: moderate challenge - one hour and 15 minutes. This hike crosses a field and enters the upland deciduous forest, before entering a lowland cedar forest and then returning to the deciduous forest and following the field back to the parking lot. During the hike three scenic streams are followed.

Secondary hike, following the first hike for those who would like to continue: more difficult - 45 minutes. This hike goes up and through the exposed escarpment over more challenging, rocky terrain.

Participants should wear sunscreen and insect repellant and bring water. There are benches by the parking lot if you wish to bring a lunch to eat following the hike. All garbage must be packed out as there are no receptacles in the lot. There is a porta-potty in the lot.

Check out your local Dufferin Hi-Land and Bruce Trail websites for more information about their events, and how to become a member:

A few of our members enjoyed a wonderful day visiting local libraries to donate a copy of Iggy Included, one of the books shortlisted for the IODE Violet Downey Book Award. It was a pleasure to meet library staff and learn about the many activities and resources they offer to our community.
Our first stop was the Shelburne Public Library, where Shannon greeted us with a warm smile and genuine enthusiasm.

Below is a bit of background information about IODE Canada's Violet Downey Award
Through the generosity of an IODE member, the late Mrs. Violet Downey, IODE Canada established The National Chapter of Canada IODE Violet Downey Book Award in 1984. The first award was presented in 1985.
The award is offered annually for the best English language book containing at least 500 words of text (preferably with Canadian content) in any category, suitable for children aged 13 and under. To be eligible, the book must have been written by a Canadian citizen and must have been distributed in Canada during the calendar year immediately preceding the National Chapter Annual Meeting held in May.

Members and specialists made up the panel of judges, including IODE members and specialists in the field of children’s literature, annually select the award-winning book from a short list.
