✔️ Freeze food scraps and place them in your bin the day before collection
✔️ Wrap food waste in newspaper, flyers, or boxboard
✔️ Cover food with grass clippings or leaves each time
✔️ Place your cart curbside for every collection

On Earth Day, volunteers and staff of the Municipality of Shelburne came together to clean up several areas in our community that have unfortunately become sites for illegal dumping and excessive littering.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who gave their time and energy to clean up someone else’s waste. Your willingness to step up and care for our shared spaces speaks volumes about the pride that exists within our community.

Our parks, roadsides, trails, and public spaces belong to all of us, and keeping them clean should be a shared responsibility. Taking pride in our community means disposing of waste properly and respecting the places we all call home.

We hope this Earth Day effort made a visible difference in your community. The small actions of individuals, good or bad, impact everyone around us. Let’s continue working together to create a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful community for all. 💚

📢 HHW Hours for May 2026📢

HHW at 243 Sandy Point Road will be open on the following dates in May:
✔️ Monday, May 4 9am-1pm and 2pm-4pm
✔️ Tuesday, May 19 9am-1pm and 2pm-4pm

**Please note that due to the Victoria Day holiday on May 18, 2026, HHW at 243 Sandy Point Road will be closed. We will be open on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 instead.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of spending the day with Angela Taylor, Regional Educator for R6 Solid Waste Management. Angela brought a wealth of knowledge and a genuine willingness to share it, which made for a very impactful day.

We started the morning by participating in an Earth Day clean-up, doing our part to help keep our community clean. We also visited several areas of concern where litter continues to be an issue. In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to present to a local organization on “Talking Trash… What Goes Where,” helping to build awareness around proper waste sorting and disposal.

A huge thank you to Angela, your knowledge, energy, and participation are truly appreciated!

🌎Yesterday, municipal staff and Council were proud to take part in an Earth Day community clean-up 🌎

While it was great to come together and make a difference, we were also reminded of how much work there still is to do. In just two hours, over 30 bags of waste were collected within a radius of less than 3 km. It’s a good opportunity for all of us to reflect on how we care for our shared spaces.

Our community is something we can all take pride in. By making small, mindful choices like disposing of waste properly and reducing litter; we can help keep it beautiful, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a positive impact. Let’s keep the momentum going 💚Municipality of Shelburne

Our community continues to make great progress, but there’s always more we can do to keep our roads, ditches, and green spaces clean and beautiful.

Here are a few simple ways you can help every day:
• Keep a small bag in your car for litter and dispose of it when you get home
• Choose reusable cups, bottles, and bags whenever possible
• Sort your waste properly, recycling and organics DO make a big difference
• If you see litter, consider picking it up safely

Taking pride in our community starts with small actions. Together, we can keep our environment cleaner, healthier, and something we’re all proud of.
