🔥 Planning an open-air fire this weekend? 🔥

If you plan to do residential burning in 2026, please purchase a fire permit. The annual fee is $25.65.

Fire permits help keep our community safe by supporting responsible burning and allowing Severn Fire and Emergency Services to monitor conditions, stay informed, and respond when needed. Permit fees also help support local fire prevention, safety, and public education efforts in our community.

💻 Getting your fire permit online is easy:
✔ visit severn.ca/firepermits
✔ confirm your property is in the Township of Severn
✔ pay with Visa, Visa Debit, or Mastercard
✔ display your emailed permit while burning
✔ follow the safe burning guidelines in Severn’s Open-air Burning By-law

🚧 Notice of ditching work

Township of Severn will be completing ditching work on Shoreview Drive, Treeline Drive, and Sandcastle Court from June 15 to 19.

Work will take place daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and will include removing sediment from ditches, replacing or removing some culverts, and lowering high shoulders.

ℹ️ No impacts to traffic are expected. There will also be no interruption to waste, organics, or recycling collection, or to bus service.

These improvements will help water drain from the road into the ditch system and move more easily through the storm drainage system. 💧

Please travel carefully through the work area and watch for staff, signage, and equipment. ⚠️

In 2018, Severn Council showed its commitment to protecting the Township’s natural environment by taking action on climate change and approving a model resolution to join the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Partners for Climate Protection program.

Since joining the program, the Township has achieved Milestones 1, 2 and 3, and 4, and continues to work with the Severn Sound Environmental Association on the implementation of our Municipal Climate Change Action Plan.

✅ We are also continuing to take action through energy reduction initiatives, efforts to reduce water and paper waste, and the installation of electric vehicle chargers in Washago, Coldwater, and at our Administration Office, which will be available soon.

June is National Indigenous History Month — a time to honour, celebrate and learn from the histories, cultures, traditions and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

It’s also a time to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonialism, deepen our understanding of reconciliation, and continue listening to and supporting Indigenous voices, communities and creators.

On June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day brings communities together across Canada through festivals, ceremonies, performances and gatherings that celebrate Indigenous cultures and heritage.

Take time this month and every month to explore Indigenous-led resources, attend local events, read Indigenous authors, and keep learning.
