🔥 TRAINING ADVISORY: NORTH SHORE MUTUAL AID EXERCISE 🔥
Residents may notice a large fire service presence in Anglemont this Tuesday from 6:30pm-9:00pm.
Our three North Shore Fire Departments are joining forces for our annual Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Mutual Aid Practice. This coordinated exercise allows our teams to sharpen the specialized skills needed to protect our community from wildfire threats.
What to expect:
The Scenario: We are simulating a large-scale, medium-intensity fire with sporadic spot fires caused by ember-casting in low-wind conditions.
Visibility: You will see multiple emergency vehicles and firefighters staged at the Ross Creek Store.
Purpose: To test seamless communication and tactical coordination between all three departments during a complex interface fire.
Training today ensures we are ready for tomorrow. Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep the North Shore safe! 🚒🌲

Our thoughts are with everyone involved.

A woman was rescued from her burning residence at approximately 10 AM, Friday, March 27 by fire crews from the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department, who were responding to reports of a fire inside a home on Mikkelson Frontage Road in Tappen.

The Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department, supported by the Shuswap and White Lake Departments, arrived to find the home filled with smoke. They were informed a woman was trapped inside the burning building.

Fire crews entered the home and were able to quickly control the blaze, which was confined to one room in the house. They found the woman and were able to pull her from the residence.

First aid was administered by firefighters and members of the South Shuswap First Responders before her care was turned over the BC Ambulance Paramedics. The patient was then transported by helicopter to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Her condition is currently not known.

“We’d like to alert residents to the importance of having working smoke alarms in each bedroom and every floor of your home. Also, remember to conduct regular, monthly tests of these devices to make sure they are working properly,” said Len Youden, Columbia Shuswap Regional District Deputy Regional Fire Chief.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
