Support with Evacuees - Timmins

Since January the community of Kashechewan have been displaced from their homes, and evacuated to Timmins and various cities across Ontario. Lily was able to provide cultural support/programming for the community members in a number of activities. The immense pressures in worrying of home, taking yourself, your family, your loved ones to a new location for a long duration can definitely take a toll mentally, physically, and spiritually. It's a blessing to reconnect through culture, cooking, story telling, sharing laughter and a place to vent, craft, express these concerns. Kitchi-miigwech Lily!

Yesterday, May 5th, was Red Dress Day. The day is observed annually as a National Day of Awareness and action in Canada that honours Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+). A day of both remembrance and activism.
Support was present in Toronto at the TMU Msko Mjigoodenh Giizhigad event, pictures showing the Red Dress Exhibit taking place at Sankofa Square.
Additionally, staff were present at the Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig Red Dress Day event
