Check out the progress on misiwe-kisik | One Sky, the future City Centre elementary school! ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ”จ

The interior of the building is really shaping up, with mechanical, electrical, drywall, and painting work in progress. ๐Ÿช› You can start to see the blue and sage green colour scheme in the paint and tilework, as well as natural wood finishes. The exterior of the building now has coloured panels and city sidewalks are in place.

The new school is expected to welcome students in 2027! ๐Ÿšธ

October 22 and 23 are three-way conference days at most elementary schools across the division!

The goal of a of a three-way conference is to make sure everyone has a voice: the student, their family, and their teacher.

๐Ÿ”ด Students may share work theyโ€™re proud of, their most important strengths and challenges, and their goals.

๐Ÿ”ต Teachers reflect on progress, identify learning goals, and bring their own observations and evidence of learning.

๐ŸŸก Families can share what they're noticing at home, what their child has been saying about school, and any questions they may have.

Student success is a partnership between school and home, and the relationships that are built at three-way conferences are an important support! Thanks to all who make the time to attend.

๐Ÿคฉ Itโ€™s a full house at the first School Community Council Assembly of the school year!

What is SCC Assembly? ๐Ÿค”

Three times a year, we bring together two representatives from each of our schoolโ€™s School Community Councils. We share updates on division operations and board activities. And we also support networking between schools so we can learn from one another! ๐Ÿ’ก What kinds of events build community, what supplemental resources or activities have enhanced learning, and much more.

Tonight (Oct. 21), our meeting is at Walter Murray Collegiate and hereโ€™s what we have on the agenda:

๐Ÿ‘‰ New Member Orientation
๐Ÿ‘‰ Updates from the Director of Education and Chair of the Board of Education
๐Ÿ‘‰ Good Food Lab โ€” food and nutrition programming at Saskatoon Public Schools
๐Ÿ‘‰ Network and idea sharing
๐Ÿ‘‰ K-3 Assessment & New K-8 Report Card

Interested in being a part of this? Talk to your school principal about getting involved with your schoolโ€™s SCC. ๐Ÿ™Œ

October 19 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! ๐ŸšŒ ๐Ÿ’› Today, weโ€™re grateful for all drivers who transport students to class and on school trips. They prioritize safety, navigate all kinds of weather, and set a friendly and welcoming tone for the school day. If you havenโ€™t yet, itโ€™s always a good time to thank your school bus driver!

This week, River Heights will finish off their Terry Fox fundraiser, bringing in an incredible $9,200 (so far)! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ The school earned some pretty sweet rewards for reaching fundraising goals:

At $4,000, students Kayshanaye and William got to be โ€œprincipal for the dayโ€ - helping out in the office, making announcements, and more.

At $5,000, interns got a pie in the face (pictured here, Mr. Eisler being a great sport).

At $6,500, Vice Principal Mme. Schubert, who is expecting, did a gender reveal. Itโ€™s a boy!

And at $7,500, Principal Ms. Hilsen coloured her *real* hair pink with *real* hair dye.

The school is accepting donations until October 15, so last minute donations could push that number even higher.

ร‰cole River Heights School is just one of the many schools all across the city who have worked hard to carry on Terry Foxโ€™s legacy, making a significant contribution to cancer research. Congrats to all who participated this year! ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿ“ฃ Itโ€™s time for the October meeting of the Saskatoon Public Schools Board of Education.

Tonightโ€™s meeting (Oct. 13) kicked off with a show and share featuring STARLAB! ๐ŸŒŽโœจ

Education consultants Jaime Schroeder and Alisha Demmings, STARLAB-trained teachers Maxine Panchuk and Brianna Aubin, and a Buena Vista School student shared how this portable planetarium brings curriculum to life.๐Ÿ’ก

STARLAB transforms school spaces (typically the gym) into immersive learning environments where students can gather inside the dome to explore stars and constellations, the solar system, Indigenous astronomy, space exploration and more. ๐ŸŒŒ

With two STARLABs available for schools to borrow and another at Brightwater Science, Environmental and Indigenous Learning Centre, students across the division have opportunities to experience learning in a whole new way.

And itโ€™s an experience that sticks! Many teachers and parents can still fondly recall their own STARLAB visits from childhood. ๐Ÿ’ซ

๐Ÿ“‹ Also on tonightโ€™s agenda:

๐Ÿ‘‰ 2026โ€“27 Enrollment Report
๐Ÿ‘‰ Student Learning Results: Grades 1โ€“8

๐Ÿ“… The next regular board meeting is November 24 at 6:30 PM. As always, the public is welcome to attend in person or online. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Montgomery School recently hosted a special visitor! ๐Ÿ The Honourable Jill McKnight, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, visited the school to share what it means to recognize veterans' service. She emphasized the importance of remembering those who have served in Canadaโ€™s military, including those we may know directly and those we may not, and reminding each other of their contributions.

Montgomery Place has deep roots in Canada's veteran community, having been established as a neighbourhood for returning veterans after the Second World War. Many students mentioned family members currently or formerly serving, creating personal connections to the learning. Students placed the names of veterans in their lives beside the cairn outside the school as a reminder of their service.

Weโ€™re grateful to Minister McKnight for being a part of this learning!
